Neil and his great team of Financial Planners in Birmingham and Nottingham are launching a first of its kind training programme at Tilney. You will be one of three trainees - two based in Birmingham and one in Nottingham - who will go through a two year structured programme together.

You will work alongside many different experienced and highly skilled Financial Planners, observing and learning technical and sales skills directly from them whilst developing your own approach and style.

As well as all the internal support you will receive, we are working with an external company through the government apprenticeship scheme who will provide you with a learning coach, face to face and on-line study sessions and exam preparation. To become a qualified Financial Planner you will be required to study for the CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.

What does a Financial Adviser or Financial Planner do?

Financial Planners or Advisers provide clients with advice on how to manage their money. This involves building long term relationships with clients and recommending the most appropriate products and services available including pensions, life products and investments. Financial Planners operate in a highly regulated environment and in order to give financial advice they must have professional qualifications and demonstrate a high degree of integrity, adherence to a code of ethics and be committed to maintaining their professional development and knowledge.

Once qualified, Financial Planners are self-managing, take the initiative and go out and find new clients whilst continuing to manage their existing client portfolio. They build strong relationships by asking the right questions to understand client needs, working out the best solutions then providing the right advice to help clients meet their financial planning goals.

Is it for you?

As a Trainee, it's not all about passing exams - it's about developing the skills and knowledge to be the best adviser you can be. One of the best ways to learn is by getting straight into helping our senior advisers prepare for and follow up on meetings with existing clients, as well as new client pitches and presentations so attention to detail is absolutely key. You will also be attending client meetings, networking and interacting with colleagues at Tilney as well as clients so add confidence and great communication skills to the list of must haves.

  • You will have great attention to detail, be ethical and solutions focussed
  • You will possess that rare balance of being able to really listen to, understand and connect with people whilst having lots of confidence to go out, network and meet new people
  • You will also need to have either at least a year's experience in any role within Wealth Management or be degree educated
  • You describe yourself as a self-starter, a problem solver, hardworking and driven to learn and develop within a Wealth Investment career.
  • Unfortunately we cannot accept applications from anyone without GCSE Grade C or higher (new levels 4 - 9) in both Maths and English Language

Application and interview process

Please complete the "In 100 words or less" box on our application form outlining why you will be successful in the role.

We will be shortlisting candidates for short telephone interviews week commencing 21st October.

Following that, you will be invited to spend a morning or afternoon with us in either Nottingham or Birmingham where you will meet Neil and some of the team on either the 13th or 14th November. Further details will be provided closer to the time.

There will also be a final interview.
