Role requirements

This programme consists of rotational placements and therefore you must be willing to relocate as and when the programme requires.

Qualifications: You must have, or be predicted to gain, a 2:2 degree classification or above in an Engineering discipline.

To apply for this role, you must hold a valid full UK car driving licence, or be willing to learn to drive and agree to secure a valid full UK car driving licence at least 3 months before the programmes start date.

About the role

As an Assistant Mechanical Engineer at National Grid your role is significant within the Pipelines and Above Ground Installations team in Engineering & Asset management. You will be keeping track of the developments and, compiled by the senior mechanical engineers, of the control systems and other major machines that are necessary in today's world. Making the day to day work more efficient.

You will be part of a team that provide engineering expertise to stakeholders across the National Grid Gas Transmission business. You will learn from these experts to perform assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge covering a range of engineering disciplines including mechanical, materials, welding, civil and corrosion management.

What you'll do

You will be:

Providing engineering support to field based teams and to capital construction projects (including new build projects and repair/maintenance to existing assets).

Identifying and managing innovation projects to generate solutions to our engineering problems.

Applying industry standards and best practices in day to day engineering activities
Developingof National Grid internal specifications

Supporting the wider Engineering & Asset Management team to develop asset strategies and investment scopes to ensure timely and cost efficient interventions are made.

Providing engineering support to ensure National Grid meets our legislative and regulatory requirements
