Graduate Food Safety Technologist

This is a hands-on factory facing role

Positioned as a development role for a talented micro / food science / technology graduate

Job Purpose

To ensure the management team are aware of their responsibilities and targets relating to food safety & legality

This role is the food safety champion for the site - under guidance from Group Food Safety Mgr

To lead or provide support to internal teams on specific projects that will improve product quality, safety or integrity

Outline of Role

* Maintenance & implementation of HACCP plans and other product integrity risk based programmes

* KPI reporting of food safety metrics

* maintenance of environmental testing schedules, such as swabbing programmes

* publishing environmental results

* investigating micro non-conformances, eg listeria fails, product fails

* process validations and re-validations

* working with engineering on hygienic design of new and existing equipment

* CCP verification & validation

* CCP training

* internal audits

* manage site calibration system

* horizon scanning for new and emerging issues

* be the go to person for customer specific requirements relating to food safety & product integrity

Essential Requirements

* Degree in Food Science, or related biological science

* In depth knowledge of microbiology and what makes products safe and of product integrity

* Understand the procedures and documentation within a food safety management system

* Understand the product quality, safety and integrity challenges of a chilled food manufacturing producing own label products for major retailers

* Understanding of how to review a process and make recommendations


* Registered IFST Food Safety Practitioner

* Level 3 HACCP

* Level 3 Food Safety
