Head of Procurement
A newly formed joint venture between Rheinmetall and BAE Systems, operating as RBSL (Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land) is looking for a Head of Procurement to lead the function at their main site in Telford.
As Head of Procurement, you will be responsible for strategic development and direction of the function and ensuring output meets the capability needs of the programs and functions in order to achieve the overarching priorities of RBSL.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to engage and influence with fellow leadership team members, partners and suppliers, taking responsibility for the function and its effective management of the RBSL supply base enabling world class schedule, cost and quality performance.
This exciting challenge offers the opportunity to play a leading role in the set up and delivery of a manufacturing and combat vehicle production supply chain for the Telford facility on a number of new and exciting programs, working hand in hand with our operations and our major program leads.
Your main responsibilities as Head of Procurement will involve:
Effectively managing the function and its resources to discharge all procurement requirements through the full lifecycle of the RBSL business, whilst ensuring that Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) remains central to the task
Engaging as part of the RBSL leadership to align objectives with overarching business strategies and deliver agendas as defined by the business
Managing and evolving effective business management processes, in a manner that engages and involves all of the procurement team and where applicable, other functions within RBSL
Management and leadership responsibility for a growing team of skilled procurement professionals, group leaders and managers
Promoting a one-team approach across all RBSL sites whilst maintaining collaborative relationships with the parent companies of the Joint Venture, customers and partners
Championing SHE performance and quality within the RBSL supply chain and financial budget responsibility for the function
Your skills and qualifications as Head of Procurement:
- Considerable procurement and supply chain management skills and experience at various organisational levels with a proven track record of success
- Knowledge of best practice in strategic and operational procurement/supply chain models with experience managing partners and suppliers both pre and post contract, including contractual agreements, negotiations, supplier development, procurement governance and assurance and commodity management
- Experience within management and leadership
- Knowledge of defence industry procurement would be desirable

Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL)
Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) is a UK-based combat vehicles design, manufacturing and support business headquartered in Telford in the West Midlands.
As a new Joint Venture, we combine Rheinmetall's military vehicles technology and products, with the capabilities and products from BAE Systems including Trojan, Terrier, Warrior, military bridging and the AS90 self-propelled artillery system.
We aim to be a UK-based internationally competitive business, able to serve both the MOD and our international customers. Our objective is to become a market leader in the military vehicle sector by specialising in six core capabilities; heavy tracked armour, wheeled armour, artillery, military bridging, through-life support and protection.
In the short term we intend to play a major role in the delivery of the British Army's new Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) and other strategic combat vehicles programmes.
RBSL employs a skilled workforce of more than 450 employees, located at its headquarters in Telford as well as at sites near Newcastle, Bristol and in Dorset. This includes over 250 engineers who work continually to protect people and national security by supplying the most advanced products and in-service support available. We also work closely with partners and suppliers to support economic development through transfer of knowledge, skills and technology.
