Working closely with your Buying Director, you'll make sure that they have everything they need to negotiate the very best deals.

Our buying teams - if it's possible - have to move even quicker than the rest of the business. And they have to keep ahead of our customers too: second-guessing what they want and need before they do. You'll get involved in every aspect of the buying lifecycle, from putting together tender documents and crunching numbers, to preparing samples and reviewing market data. The proposals start with you.

We do things our own way at Aldi. But whatever we're doing, we must be getting it right. With a wave of impressive sales figures behind us, we're opening new stores at lightning speed. And to keep on top of that wave, our buying teams have to do something pretty special to keep our customers coming back for more.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our SpecialBuys team as a Design Assistant, based at our Head Office in Atherstone.

Working within the Corporate Buying team, you would be responsible for developing and proposing exciting, relevant and evolving themes whilst maintaining and increasing customer interest within the Aldi SpecialBuys program.

The ideal candidate will be able to confidently monitor competitor activity and provide research on current and future trends within the GB & Irish market.

The successful candidate will have a great eye for trends, with an ability to recognise commercial potential. Excellent organisational and communication ability is essential, as well as having a professional manner. You will be enthusiastic, proactive and self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities within this role include the following:
• Evaluating previous themes and products
• Analysis of market and competitor trends
• Supporting the Theme Coordination Manager in preparing Innovation and NPD meetings
• Monitoring Aldi International activity and making product/theme proposals
• Consolidating supplier trend information
• Liaising with market trend providers e.g. Trendstop, WGSN
• Consolidating research to create colour palettes, mood boards and design overview presentations
• Supporting the Theme Coordination Manager on existing and future projects
• Prepare Special buy discussions which develop the sales and profitability of the business taking into account the market, quality and commercial considerations
• Utilising Adobe Illustrator and WSGN (or equivalent) programmes

Minimum requirements:
• GCSEs grade C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English
• Ideally you will have a relevant fashion or design qualification
• Experience within a Design Assistant role or similar, within the retail industry
• Experience creating designs for retail
• Experience in researching consumer and product trends for the retail industry
• Buying knowledge within the retail industry is desirable
• Adobe Illustrator experience (or equivalent programmes)
• Experience utilising trend providers such as WGSN and Trendstop (or equivalent sources)
