Truly great career opportunity for a General Manager level professional or aspiring GM to manage their own business unit in a large, family orientated business in the engineering / service sector.

This business unit turns over approx. GBP3 million and is part of a larger group of companies employing over 600 people and are experts in their field as a leading electrical contractor in both low and high voltage equipment with service and maintenance offerings.

As General Manager / Business Unit Manager you will have total autonomy in the role to manage the business unit, but also have the senior management team support network around you if required. The company provide a range of products for electrical machines to external and intercompany customers.

To be successful you will need to have prior experience in leading and managing an engineering or service-based operation, and have strong experience with financial, customer and employee strategies. Once up to speed you will have full responsibility for ensuring a continuous pipeline of work through the development of new and existing clients. The team has a huge range of knowledge and experience that can be used and built on to grow the business further and make more profitable for all.

Objectives as General Manager are to :

Manage full P&L, budget and commercial responsibility of the business
Be forward thinking and develop and deliver budgets in line with forecasts and expectations
Manage process and procedures to achieve right first time and customer satisfaction
Drive high standard of work and continuous improvements in the process and operations
Understand customer contracts to interpret and implement appropriate controls
Understand the market to identify and deliver new opportunities to tender
Manage costs to improve efficiency, increase business performance and profitability
Full HR duties of coaching and developing the workforce
Ensure high level of quality and H&S standards are maintained
Required experience / skills

Experience of managing a team. (c20+)
Ability to understand and manage a full P&L (ideally in low GBPmillions) with budget control
Commercial and financial acumen
Customer focused methodology with high level of communication skills to all levels
Good people management skills with the ability to lead, motivate and develop team
Technical knowledge (ideally in the mechanical and electrical industry)
Degree or relevant experience in managing an engineering / service business
