You will be part of a keen and supportive team that will provide opportunities for you to develop your technical skills and your ability to deliver excellent technical support in school environments in Worcestershire and the surrounding counties.

Main purpose of job:
  • To provide scheduled technical maintenance and support for ICT to a set of schools.
  • Involvement in larger installations in schools in line with documented project plans.
  • To provide reactive IT support as required, including telephone support, remote support, site visits and assistance with hardware quotations.
  • To research and to document development projects and procedures for the team in line with strategic objectives for the business.

Responsibilities, duties and tasks:
  1. To meet the terms of our Peripatetic contract with schools by providing on-site support to a set of schools on a scheduled basis. Your scheduled visits will include:
  • Deployment of computers/servers/mobile devices and associated peripherals including new installations and the redeployment of existing equipment as required
  • Installation and configuration of operating systems to agreed standards
  • Configuring and maintaining networking protocols and services
  • Setting up, configuring and maintaining network users and groups to agreed standards and to the requirements of schools
  • Installing and configuring software to agreed standards
  • Maintaining the existing computers/servers/mobile devices and peripherals to agreed standards by performing upgrades, new installations and carrying out routine procedures
  • Providing technical troubleshooting to schools as required in conjunction with the rest of the technical team
  • Assisting in the compilation and maintenance of an accurate inventory of hardware and software
  • You will also be involved with your colleagues in completing larger installation projects in schools including:
  • Supporting the consultation process and providing technical input at the planning phase of larger installation projects
  • Being part of smaller project teams, sometimes leading and sometimes supporting the implementation of these projects in accordance with the agreed project plan
  • Assisting with AV and networking hardware installations where required
  • In line with the main IBS Schools contract with schools, to provide reactive IT support as required, including telephone support, remote support, site visits and assistance with hardware quotations.
  • Researching and documenting development projects for the team in line with strategic objectives of the business
    • Assisting in research and development projects for the benefit of the IBS Schools team and schools, including input to and validation of technical standard and procedure documents
    • Assisting with technical training for the IBS Schools team and school staff as required
  1. To liaise with the managers of the Peritech Service to ensure continuity of services for schools
  2. To maintain fault reporting to ensure any issues in schools are allocated correctly within the team so that they are effectively resolved


A full driving licence is a requirement of the post - you will need to take out business insurance

Enhanced DBS clearance is a requirement of the post and will be arranged by Capita

Qualifications / Training
  • Educated to NVQ level 3/A level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have equivalent significant experience working within a PC/Network support role

Experience / Knowledge:
  • Experience of the configurations, set-up and day-to-day operations of a broad range of current hardware devices - PCs, laptops, netbooks, printers and other peripherals
  • Good understanding of current Windows O/S and iOS
  • Good understanding of backup solutions
  • An understanding of Internet and email systems
  • Experience of troubleshooting networked devices; ability to identify causes and apply solutions
  • Sound knowledge of common PC applications including Microsoft Office
  • Good knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy is desirable but not essential
  • Good understanding of Network LANs and WANs is desirable but not essential
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP and wireless networking is desirable but not essential

Other Information
  1. The IBS Schools team closes its service between Christmas and New Year. You will be required to take these days from your annual leave entitlement.
