Cannock Chase Council and Stafford Borough Council are committed to achieving excellence in the processing of Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Support claims together with the recovery of overpaid benefit, from their shared Benefits Service.

The following opportunities have arisen for candidates with the appropriate skills, experience and commitment to join our team.  Whilst the successful candidates will be based primarily in Cannock, you may be required on occasion to work at sites across the Cannock Chase and Stafford Borough areas.

Senior Benefits Officer (Appeals & Overpayments)

Grade F £22,911 - £26,317 per annum

RF570 – 37 Hours per week

You should have previous experience in Local Authority Local Taxation and Benefits service or related area. You will also be able to understand and communicate effectively on complex and frequently changing legislation.

You must also have knowledge of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction legislation and you must also be a committed team player who can work on own initiative and be committed to providing a quality customer focused service.

In addition, you should have IT skills in the use of Microsoft Office packages such as Word and Excel.

Holding an IRRV Technician Qualification and having experience at a management level would be desirable.

Debt Recovery Officer (Appeals & Over payments)

Grade D £19,171 - £21,166 per annum

RF580 – 37 Hours per week

Fixed term up to 12 months from appointment

You must have verbal and written communication skills to be able to deal with face-to-face and telephone enquiries and all forms of written communication in an efficient, polite and sensitive manner. You should also be able to use a computer to input and retrieve data.

You should be able to work accurately and to tight deadlines and be a committed team player who can also work on their own initiative to complete tasks and achieve targets. You must also hold GCSE’s at Grade C or above in English and Mathematics or be able to demonstrate equivalent vocational experience.

Previous experience of working in Local Authority Benefits administration and working with Civica Housing Benefits and Council Tax Benefits Software would be desirable.
