Our client is seeking a Technical Officer on an initial 3 month contract with the possibility of an extension.

Working Hours:

37 Hours per week

Monday - Friday

Pay Rate:

GBP13.99 p/h

Job Purpose:

To contribute to achieving the Council's Vision by providing technical support within the Environmental Protection Team, undertaking duties necessary to fulfil the Council's commitments and statutory responsibilities with regard to Pollution Control, Public Health and Abandoned Vehicles.

To undertake personal development and learning commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Carry out Environmental Protection inspections, investigations, audits and other procedures and methods using education, advice and enforcement techniques to achieve legal compliance, customer satisfaction and service and quality standards. The range of duties will include domestic nuisances and refuse accumulations and other similar duties as may be allocated from time to time.

To determine and pursue an appropriate enforcement approach (including taking enforcement and default action if required) in relation to the duties outlined in 1 above. Such action may include the decision to recommend the service of notices in routine cases not involving complex legal or technical judgement, the service of such notices to be in accordance with the Council's constitution and scheme of delegation. Such enforcement may also include applying for and executing warrants for entry for the seizure of equipment. To advise and work jointly with others, e.g. other departments of the Council and County Council, housing associations, police and voluntary organisations to achieve solutions to service requests.

To inspect the Borough for abandoned vehicles and serve appropriate notices and documentation to secure their removal and to liaise with contractors over removal.

Carry out environmental monitoring, including routine maintenance and calibration of equipment and assistin with air uali monitorin .

The timely and accurate completion of administrative tasks and any associated reports required in relation to the work undertaken.

To prepare evidence in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and RIPA, including the interview of suspects under PACE, the preparation of statements of evidence in relation to proposed legal proceedings, the recommendation of appropriate legal action e.g. formal caution or prosecution and to appear in Court as required.

Assist in the preparation and distribution of promotional and advisory materials on Environmental Protection issues for use within the Borough and at events, including website content.

Assist with the training of trainees and others in respect of the aspects of the postholder's duties.

To collect and to be held accountable for sums of money collected from deceased persons estate in the course of investi atin remises for the ur oses of securin a ublic burial.

Any other duties as required which are commensurate with the purpose and grading of the post.

Skills and Experience:

* Experience of working in a regulatory role, preferably in a local authority or public service organisation

* Experience of dealing with members of the public, preferably in investigating complaints or responding to other requests for service.

* Relevant experience in a scientific, environmental or enforcement position.

* Level 3 or equivalent with at least one being in a science or mathematical subject.

* BTEC in Environmental Health or qualification in a relevant s ecialist area.

* Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing , with colleagues and members of the public.

* Demonstrate ability to maintain detailed and accurate records Demonstrate ability to think analytically and take appropriate

* action in the context of legislation and in accordance with established policies, standards and procedures.

* Competency in the use of MS Office (Word and Excel) or similar knowledge of relevant legislation relating to the position.

* Use of Civica APP (Flare) softuare, in relation to Environmental Health
