Our clients mission is to improve the quality of life of people and the communities in which they live. Today their role in providing new homes, investing in communities, providing services to their 20,000 customers and supporting local people is more important than ever before.
They wish to recruit an Income Officer, to take responsibility for appropriate and effective action to recover rent arrears, service charges and sundry debts within a defined area, coordinate and manage legal action to recover rent arrears and other debts, liaise between the organisation and the housing benefit teams across a range of Local Authorities, provide financial inclusion advice, information and support to customers and provide debt awareness advice to customers, whilst working closely with Neighbourhood Officers in the collection and recovery of rents.
They are looking for candidates who have recent and in-depth experience of working with debtors ideally within a housing or related field, an understanding of the purpose and ethos of social housing, and a knowledge of best practice relating to financial inclusion, income collection, and of appropriate referral routes to tenants who need specialist financial advice and support.
Successful candidates will have experience of providing advice and guidance to a diverse and often vulnerable client base, have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with a strong customer focus, ability to understand and empathise with the challenges facing customers, have strong negotiation skills, and the ability to advise on appropriate welfare benefits available to customers.
You will have the ability to keep up to date with changes in legislation, organise a busy workload and to be able to respond to unplanned demands. You will be a confident user of databases, Microsoft Office and internet communications.
Candidates will require a current driving licence and use of their own vehicle.
Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to work flexible hours as requested and to work additional hours to meet the regular "peaks" of achieving a tight workload.
May be necessary for the postholder to work evenings as required.
