Your new role

As a Health and Safety Manager supporting the Smart Motorways Programme (SMP) within the central region, you will use your previous experience to be able to hit the ground running in this fixed term contract until March 2020. You will support a number of schemes which are currently in construction and some that are in design and development. You will conduct regular site visits and other assurance activities to ensure they are being delivered safely and are meeting our high standards. You will also play an important role supporting safe delivery of projects as we move to the Alliance Delivery model as part of the next Road Investment Strategy (RIS2). This is a great opportunity to be part of some of the largest infrastructure projects in England and ensure the health and safety of staff, supply chain and customers.

This role will require some travel to between our National offices and project site offices.

What you'll be leading on

  • Leading assurance work to ensure projects are delivered to a consistent high standard

  • Ensuring accidents are reported and investigated correctly by our delivery partners and that recommendations and actions are implemented, including some 'check and challenge'

  • Support the delivery of projects in both the development and construction phase, providing health and safety advice and aid decision making

  • Develop and support the Major Projects health and safety strategy and objectives.

To be successful

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent

  • Construction Health and Safety experience working on large and complex projects, ideally in an infrastructure environment

  • Practical/Working knowledge of CDM

  • Experience of providing sound health and safety advice and implementing strategy across projects

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders both internally and externally

  • Desirable - Some experience of working client side
