Job Title: Functional Skills Tutor

Salary: up to £26,000, plus paid mileage and benefits

Location: Home Based with extensive travel

We are currently recruiting for a Functional Skills Tutor for Serco Education. Our Serco Education team delivers a range of national programmes for school leaders, school managers, classroom and support colleagues as well to those in the business sector. This is a national role and you will be required to travel to all parts of England to invigilate functional skills tests.

About the Role:

As Functional Skills Tutor, your key responsibilities are to develop, administer and deliver all aspects of Mathematics and English functional skills levels 1&2 provision. You will support apprentices in the workplace as part of ESFA funded programmes. You will primarily work for Serco Education but you may be required to support apprentices trained by other business units within Serco as required. Key duties include:

  • Teach and assess functional skills English / Maths to young people on vocational programmes and mature apprentices on higher apprenticeships;
  • Invigilate maths and English functional skills at workplaces across England;
  • Ensure appropriate and effective functional skills materials are used to maintain and enhance the quality of learning experiences;
  • Prepare a functional skills assessment plan for apprenticeships that meets the awarding bodies’ requirements and strategic plan, maintaining compliance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) requirements;
  • Support Serco’s Quality team by providing information necessary for operations. Review performance of Functional Skills programme against targets and recommend appropriate interventions are required;
  • Contribute to the development of apprenticeship materials from level 2 upwards

About You:

If you are an experienced Functional Skills Tutor working with both young and mature apprentices, then we want to hear from you! Educated to graduate level preferably, wee would be keen to also hear from those who have level 3 certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent).

Due to the nature of the role, you must be able to commit to frequent travel across the UK and to our head office department in Gloucester on a regular monthly or more basis.
