We are currently working in partnership with a Tier 1 Automotive Manufacturing business who work many global OEM automotive businesses. At present due a strategic growth plan this client is looking to take on a Mechanical Design Engineer who has a background in Automotive Electronic Design.

This is a full time permanent vacancy and in return you will be offered a market leading salary of upto GBP45,000 p/a, benefits, pension and holidays. You will also have the the chance to work with a globally renouned business who are at the forefrount of manufacturing excellence. The Mechanical Engineer is a vital position within the Engineering environment.

Experience within the Automotive Design sector is essential and a background in electronics design is key. Those without this background would not be suitable.

Duties and Responsibilities

The individual participates within the overall team meeting the needs of our business against the below criteria

Develop and introduce new products into the clients portfolio

Preparation of CAD models

Completion of dimensional drawings outlining special characteristics and tolerancing requirements

To support the Mechanical Engineering Manager and Product Engineers on customer related matters

To provide support to the manufacturing area for the introduction of new products

To liaise closely with customers and suppliers, ensuring all relevant requirements can be met

The role will require the applicant to travel from time to time to support customer visits and trials therefore you must be able to travel worldwide, sometimes at short notice

The role will also entail liaison with our sister site and so a driving licence will be required

To receive, evaluate, and conduct feasibility for design and manufacture of products within the businesses portfolio

To develop and improve existing or new products that include mechanical, electrical and electronic designs, to ensure the best possible engineered solutions are delivered on time and on budget

To work with the Mechanical Manager / Product Engineers to completely 'interrogate' received CAD models from various sources

Develop and detail the 3D CAD models and engineering drawings including dimensions, GD&T tolerancing and special characteristics

Be responsible for a suite of products from initial concepts through to "" product, liaising with all necessary departments and contacts

Expected to develop mechanical and electromechanical products by studying customer requirements, researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials

To evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs; applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and materials engineering

To confirm system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods and assure that the system and/or product quality is satisfactory, by designing testing methods, by testing the finished product and the system capabilities, whilst also confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes

To prepare product reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information and trends

To provide all necessary engineering information by answering questions and requests where applicable

To maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations

To maintain professional and technical knowledge within your given field

To contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as required

To work with the internal team at the business and external customers or suppliers, to ensure a flawless launch of all new and existing products that are currently governed by the business

Communication skills need to be of the highest level

Mechanical Engineering

Manage the 3D data exchange with the customer, suppliers, and within the business

Review and critique teams design to ensure maximum re-use, lessons learned and design for manufacture and products which are fit for purpose

Design, own and deliver concepts as required into production

To support the enquiry and estimating process at the quotation stage, and manage the required cross functional feasibility reviews

Attend and take responsibility for DFMEA aspects within vehicle programme

Working closely with manufacturing engineering to ensure that design for manufacture and design for assembly has been adequately considered

To complete initial sample trials, tool try outs and fit & function meetings on new products

To support Appearance Approval Meetings with customers when required

Ensure that products developed have been designed with GD&T in mind, which will then drive requirements for gauging strategies

Gauges will need to be designed and then manufactured which will be driven by the engineer

Inspection jigs must be designed and manufactured to fit in with the current ethos of production processes

To support Key Account Managers by providing technical support on visits etc.

To identify improved systems of work, through the continuous improvement system

To work within the Company's Health & Safety Policy

To maintain a clean and tidy work environment

To identify their own particular needs that contributes to their own future development

To understand and work within the business Quality system IATF 16949

To understand and work within the business Environmental system ISO14001

To identify improved systems of work, through the continuous improvement (Kaizen) system

Salary: GBP43,500 - GBP45,000 p/a - Experience depending
