Laboratory Manager: Brief role description -

We are supporting our client in their search for a Laboratory Manager, who will be responsible for

leading the Product Testing Activities (rubber / polymer-based products) for the site, maintaining the range of accreditations and compliance required for business operations.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Lead the Product Testing Activities for the site, maintaining the range of accreditations and compliance required for business operations

* Champion Testing and Operational best practices.

* Lead process improvement and operational efficiency.

* Develop a Safety and Quality culture.

* Actively participate in the execution of marketing and sales events that drive business growth in the field of product testing, driving all necessary actions to realise sustainable growth in line with company and department objectives.

* Continually identify opportunities for revenue growth and margin (profit) enhancement in the field of product testing.

Key Result Areas

1. Adherence to client's test specifications/requirements and ISO 17025 systems and procedures.

2. Project Cost management, On Time Delivery and Right first time Technical Reports.

3. Individually and through the product testing team, lead and embed a culture of continuous improvement and quality excellence through systems, processes, training, expectations.

4. Building and maintaining a project pipeline to ensure that strategic plan and operating plan revenues, profit targets and growth are achieved.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

1. Actively participate in the execution of marketing and sales events that drive business growth in the field of product testing, driving all necessary actions to realise sustainable growth in line with company and department objectives.

2. Continually identify opportunities for revenue and margin (profit) growth in the field of product testing, driving all necessary actions to realise growth in line with company and department objectives.

3. Collaborate with team members and other Managers to design and implement solutions that will continually improve effectiveness and efficiencies.

4. Lead, coach, and train employees toward a cohesive team concept. Foster an environment for empowered and a high-performance department. Identify development plans for staff and implement.

5. Lead, coach and train staff on principles and practices of process excellence and continuous improvement.

6. Conduct routine testing as a member of the team to achieve billable hour targets.

7. Lead problem solving of complex testing issues within the department and ensure that methodologies are implemented and adopted.

8. Direct and facilitate investigations and resolution of validation failures, process deviations, abnormal results, customer complaints and inquiries, and other quality performance indicators.

9. Lead the S&OP process for the department for all testing projects through the test bays and for sub-projects sourced to other departments or third-parties, ensuring that project timelines and planned costs are achieved.

10. Provide technical leadership.

11. Interact with Customers as required to prepare quotations and test results.

12. Visit clients directly and with commercial BDM's to assist the Operations Director in growing the department WINS and revenues.

13. Work with the Operations Director and BDM's to manage opportunities, prepare quotations and service options.

14. Anticipate and identify customer needs. Seek ways to continually improve customer satisfaction.

15. Lead preparations for on-site customer visits and audits and actively spearhead the process.

16. Prepare and make presentations to clients on and off site and to senior management

17. Responsible for all communications with clients re quality and standards issues.

18. Create, review and implement relevant testing Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments.

19. Ensure adequate planned maintenance of all test equipment including on-time calibration.

Health & Safety

20. Contribute, create and maintain appropriate and effective health and safety standards with the product testing laboratory and within the site as a whole.

21. Take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety of oneself and that of others.

22. Comply with all health and safety information, instruction and training as it relates to the individual, role and organisation.

Quality

23. Responsible for ensuring that all staff are adequately trained in the relevant systems and standards.

24. Assist with ensuring that the relevant quality accreditation is maintained through full procedural compliance.

25. Liaise and assist the Quality department as appropriate to ensure success of internal and external audits.

General

26. Undertake such other reasonable duties and responsibilities appropriate to the position as may be allocated by management from time to time.

Qualifications / Education / Specialist Training:

* Scientific or Engineering Degree

* Minimum 8 years of direct work experience in an industrial or testing environment within an ISO17025 or similar quality system
