Our client is seeking Planning Officer on an initial 2 month contract with a possibility of an extension.

Working Hours:

Monday - Friday

Job Purpose:

To help deliver sustainable, high quality development which meets the needs of the area by providing pre-application advice, assessing and determining planning applications and/or by preparing, implementing and monitoring the Local Plan and other planning policy documents.

Duties and Responses:

* To undertake the professional duties of the post including determining planning applications; providing pre-application advice; preparing, evaluating and assessing research, evidence and policies; assessing development proposals and opportunities; preparing reports and written statements; and undertaking activities related to enforcement with minimal supervision, to ensure development opportunities, proposals and breaches are properly dealt with within a clear and strong policy framework.
* To lead on key areas of work such as Public Inquiries, major development proposals and specialist policy development matters, including planning for and delivering infrastructure and undertaking the necessary professional duties associated with preparing for and representing the District Council in respect of formal proceedings (such as Public Inquiries, Hearings or Examinations), possibly as the Council's sole representative.
* To make planning decisions and recommendations to Committee based on a reasoned balance of material considerations including the policy framework, evidence and local circumstances/consultation and to arrange, prepare and present reports and recommendations to Council Committees (such as Planning Committee and Executive) to enable well informed decisions to be reached.
* To provide general advice and information to the public, other professionals, senior management and Councillors on all aspects of professional work including the more complex matters and deal with enquiries and the professional activity of the Service in a helpful positive way including face to face, telephone, in writing and through the website.
* To represent the District Council in formal and informal public situations (such as public meetings and events) in connection with the professional duties of the post, including consultations.
* To supervise junior professional officers, technical and administrative staff through the provision of advice and guidance. To maintain effective liaison with other sections and service areas within the Council as required.

Skills and Experience:

* Relevant degree or professional qualification
* A minimum of three years experience in a professional planning role
* Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute
* A graduate or of graduate calibre
* Experience of delivering good customer service
* Experience of delivering work to deadlines
* Experience of administering systems
* Full driving license and access to a car for work purposes
