Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Section Engineer to join our Major Projects Highways team to work on the M6 J2-4, Coventry to Coleshill Smart Motorway Project.

What you'll be doing

Role Purpose:

* To control a section of the works, according to a specific discipline.

* Management of a team of Site Engineers within same discipline.

As a Section Engineer, you will:

* Produce Method Statements and Risk Assessments and undertake periodic reviews;

* Coach junior engineers in the use of setting out techniques;

* Identify, raise and action Non Conformance Reports. Tracks close-out of NCRs within section;

* Liaise with subcontractors to ensure work is undertaken in line with weekly programme;

* Carry out a labour and plant reconciliation and supervise less experienced team members.

Who we're looking for

You will:

* Hold a current driving license and CSCS Card. SSSTS or SMSTS qualified;

* Understand Permit System and actively raise Permits to Work;

* Understand and have experience of producing ACP;

* Have strong knowledge of construction process in one or more of the following areas: Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Comms, Structures, Roadworks;

* Carry out complex setting out;

* Provision of ‘primary’ setting out control and recognize the optimum location for installation

* Coach junior engineers in the use of setting out techniques;

* Produce a weekly programme and measure progress against KPI’s;

* Communicate weekly programme and target to the workforce;

* Monitor "as-built programme" and report reasons for difference;

* Liaise with subcontractors to ensure works undertaken in line with weekly programme;

* Produce Method Statements and Risk Assessments and undertake periodic reviews;

* Prepare and raise Temporary Works Briefs, following up to ensure timely implementation;

* Produce Activity Control Plans/Inspection and Test Plans and obtain approval;

* Actively use the specification for reference and coach junior team members in using the spec;

* Maintain a comprehensive filing system of quality records aligned to the Project Quality Handover requirements;

* Ensure that Site Engineers complete the required quality check sheets on a timely basis for the works;

* Identify, raise and action Non Conformance Reports. Track close-out of NCRs within section;

* Maintain accurate diary, including dialogue with external organisations (subcontractors);

* Collate weekly measure information and monitor wastage against budget allowances/KPI’s;

* Carry out a labour and plant reconciliation and supervise less experienced team members;

* Identify items of additional work and raises the necessary notifications;

* Work to specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers.
