Lead Engineer - Urban Environments Safety and Compliance for Autonomous Vehicles. 18 Month Contract

Our client based in Coventry is looking to recruit a Lead Engineer with a strong track record in safety, risk management and compliance in the civil, automotive or industrial sector to help them develop and implement a comprehensive safety framework around their CAV test bed.

This role could be a personal challenge and opportunity for the right person. This new test bed is an opportunity for you to lead the design process from the start, and see it through to a successful sustainable operating test bed providing a service to a broad range of stakeholders across many industry sectors.

The role will help you gain a thorough understanding of testing new technology within public environments by carrying out a review of existing processes, regulations and policies. This will lead to the development of a new safety policy and framework for the test bed.

You will be working with 8 major consortium partners as well as coordinating with other test beds across the Meridian framework and other public sector bodies.

You Key Duties and responsibilities:

- Conduct in depth research and design into the health and safety impacts and quality assurance requirements of the CAV Test Bed. This will involve comprehensive literature and internet searches as well as arranging meetings with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Design and facilitate collaborator workshops to capture and define requirements and solutions. Ensure that a detailed work programme exists to support the safe operation of the test bed.
- Develop a health and safety process including manuals, procedures risk assessments, safe systems of work etc. for the CAV Test bed
- Deploy and update the process, and develop the sustainable model for the extended operation of the test bed. Hand over to the operational team at the end of the project.
- Provide comprehensive direction and support to the organisation and the partners on all aspects of the project relating to the health and safety activity for the test bed. Deputise for the work package leader at senior management meetings as required.
- To attend and present research and project findings at professional conferences and contribute to the external visibility and profile of the department
- Assist with the development and delivery of health and safety training materials to disseminate and embed knowledge within project partners.
- Develop plans to ensure that the business outputs agreed with the funding bodies are achieved within the agreed timescales and reported on a regular basis
- Represent the organisation at national and international events and report outcomes to the Project Manager and others within the research group in a timely manner.

Person Specification:
- You will have an honours degree in a relevant subject
- Significant experience in safety and risk management including experience of dealing with safety issues affecting the general public.
- Experience in quality control quality assurance for engineering and testing work
- Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes engineering within a relevant industrial sector, including the ability to make recommendations for process improvements
- Experience in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation
- Ability to perform detailed data analysis and interpretation to present results and make recommendations via briefings, presentations or written reports
- Good effective oral and written communication skills, presentation and training skills
- Well-developed interpersonal skills capable of dealing with all levels of employment and providing effective solutions to complex situations
- Ability to work within a diverse team of subject matter experts, to quickly adapt to new situations and business practices
- Skillful negotiator with the ability to influence and persuade when necessary
- Excellent project planning and reporting skills, with the ability to initiate, plan organise, implement and deliver programmes of work to tight deadlines
- Ability to deliver rapid, commercially focused results
- A significant level of relevant product development experience in an industrial context
