Improve and maintain electronic designs due to discontinued components, or through identified design improvements to improve functionality, yield, cost, or in response to customer feedback.


·Maintain designs and drawings (Schematic, wiring, assembly, BOMs, ATE specifications etc.), in accordance with company and international standards.

·Solve problems as they relate to electronic engineering issues, working closely with other technical specialists as necessary.

·Improve electronic and cable designs to aid manufacturability and serviceability.

·Identify and implement cost reductions.

·Produce safe, compliant and robust designs, by understanding the intent of existing designs and critical to quality functional elements.

·Carry out experiments and /or perform design calculations to predict, measure and validate instrument performance with respect to mechanical, particulate and other parameters.

·Perform activities such as brain storming, concept selection, DFMA and FMEA.

·As a senior engineer, be a technical leader for a given product or problem, providing team leadership and design direction as appropriate.

·From time to time to take on the role of Project Leader of a team as directed by the Engineering Manager providing team leadership and design direction as appropriate to the size of project.

·Understand and mentor others in good design techniques, experimentation, analysis and domain understanding.

·Lead or participate in product architectural discussions as required, through an appreciation of the overall system design, and the interactions and trade-offs with other engineering discipline areas.

·Liaise with suppliers to determine the choice of components and test methodologies.

·Provide electronic support to the procurement team to allow manufacture in low cost economies and provide technical support to the manufacturing facilities overseas.

·Support suppliers relating to electronic parts and assemblies, both on and off shore.

·Act as the interface between the New Product Development team and the Manufacturing team during the release of new products.


Entry Qualifications

·Electronic Engineering degree at a 2:1 or above or equivalent experience

Skills & Experience

·Use of schematic capture and printed circuit design tools.

·Use of SPICE and SI simulation tools.

·Design for manufacture, assembly, and test.

·PCB, PCA, and cabling test methods.

·Generating test specifications.

·Fault finding and problem solving.

·Report writing.

·Design of micro-controller and DSP based instrumentation and control electronics, including sensor interfaces, dc-dc regulators, and small actuator drives.

·Working within a multi-disciplinary team, including Software and PCB design engineers.

·Ability to write test software would be useful.

·Ability to write test code in VHDL would be useful.

·General EMC and safety standards.
