We're looking for Connection Operatives across our Severn Trent region to join our Developer Services Team and manage the connections of new water services for small and large developers.
A standard day for you is never standard. Each day will start with a drive to your Hub or Depot (in your own personal work van) where you'll be allocated your work/patch for the day. Once you arrive at your first job you'll do a site specific risk assessment, trace and mark up for utilities (so NRSWA qualification will be handy), excavate and then connect the water service (working on small & larger connections). You won't be filling in the hole though as a rule, someone else will do that for you.
So that's the job, but let's talk about what skills or experience you'll need to be able to do the job.
You'll need experience of new connections for a major utility as you will be connecting water pipes and services. There's computer work (you'll use a laptop style tough book and mobile smart phone) in order to load the completed job into our computer system - so being IT competent is needed. As you'll be excavating and digging you will need to have an awareness of groundworks.
There is a huge customer focus in this role; so it's not just about having good communication skills, it's also about having a strong customer focus too as we want to deliver an excellent service to our customers. You'll need to call them to say you're on the way, clearly explain the job that you're about to do, how long it will take and if there are any problems then clearly explain these. We'll support you with this on your induction.
As a Connection Operative the qualifications you'll need are:
• NRSWA unit 1-9
• Digger tickets
• Drivers Licence
• EUSR National Water Hygiene Card
• Some form of Working from Heights, Excavation Safety training, Safe Dig Techniques Awareness / Training
