Underhills Childrens Home is part of the Priory specicalist service. Underhills childrens home is a registered home for up to three children who have complex needs which may include autistic spectrum disorder ( ASD ) and complex associated difficulties. This home is open 52 weeks per year.
Underhill’s accommodates and has provision for young people who have emotional and behavioural difficulties who are starting to engage with methods of behaviour management and assistance with their emotional needs. These young people have usually experienced multiple care and Education placement breakdowns, have little confidence or trust in adults and poor relationship-building abilities. As a result of their past, they often have a low self-image and a low self-esteem. The young people are labelled with ADD, ADHD and various conduct disorders and have a Statement of Educational Needs as a result of emotional and behavioural difficulties. We provide a warm, welcoming, relaxed, yet structured environment, which encourages young people to develop social, educational and practical skills to enjoy and achieve, and to lead a fulfilling life in beautiful surroundings.
We believe all aspects of residential life should have a positive outcome. Care, Education and Therapy objectives are of equal importance and are combined in the construction of individual programmes, which will be used to help alleviate problems, challenge low expectations and develop potential and return young people to their own communities when appropriate. Our work is based on the within a ‘relational model’ whereby there is a premise that mankind seek to establishment authentic, meaningful connections in relationships. When there is a disconnection in relationships for example through childhood experiences (bereavement, attachment issues, neglect, trauma, and abuse), the result’s impact on emotional and psychological wellbeing.
