Can you combine strategic thinking, strong analyticalskills and pragmatic business sense to deliver clear and effective strategies?If the answer is yes, then we want you to join our Commercial Strategy Team atSainsbury's Argos. We are looking for an engaging and analytical AssistantStrategy Manager to help drive the success of commercial as we expand ourclose-knit team of 8.

This role is a great opportunity for a strategicthinker to get close to the workings of the UK's largest general merchandiseretailer, whilst having the freedom and exposure to interact regularly with avariety of stakeholders across the company. Commercial Strategy is responsible for defining the strategy thatunderpins our Buying and Merchandising function and will empower our growingbusiness to support this agenda in the coming years.

As a member ofCommercial Strategy, you will be supporting the delivery of the keyresponsibilities of the team, such as:

  • Working with key stakeholders todevelop and communicate the commercial strategy, ensuring it remains relevantand rooted in the wider ambitions of the Sainsbury's Argos vision, corporatestrategy & group strategy

  • Driving the power of the group bypulling together a holistic commercial view both internally and externallyacross the markets and categories within which we play

  • Empowering the trading teams todeliver a compelling proposition within each of their specialist markets

  • Representing Commercial withincross-functional workstreams and working to embed commercial priorities acrossthe business

  • Providinganswers and recommendations to ad hoc commercially relevant queries

    This willrequire you to be a strategic thinker, with great commercial understanding, soa background working in a strategy or commercial projects team wouldbe beneficial. There's always a lot going on at Sainsbury's Argos, so we wouldalso like you to be prepared to manage complex processes involving largeamounts of information and buildstrong relationships with multiple stakeholders across the commercial function.

    What will you be doing?

    You willboth lead and support on a range of projects that contribute to the success ofthe team responsibilities. As a result, your work can make a real impact to ourcustomers and has the potential to focus on a variety of areas, such as rangingprinciples, shopper missions and channel mix.

    To do thisyou will:

    Get to the answers, and the rightquestions: Shape thepertinent questions that will drive most value, create hypothesis and translatethis into analysis requirements to ultimately reach distilled, actionablerecommendations for the business.

    Articulate conclusions clearly: Identify the most appropriate means tocommunicate findings and recommendations, create the relevant content andpresent to the right people.

    Manage stakeholders: Work with business teams acrossTrading, Marketing, Digital & Supply to build relationships, collaboratingparticularly with Senior Managers, Buying Managers & MerchandisingManagers. This could be through setting up & leading working groups,running workshops or working directly with individuals.

    Programme management: Lead the response to ad hoc managementqueries, align workstreams ensuring they ladder up to our total team purpose,and ensure that dependencies required from other teams are aligned to ensurethe success of the broader project.

    Essential skills forthis role:

  • Educated to University degree levelor equivalent or demonstrable strategy experience within previous roles

  • Highlyanalytical with experience translating data into insight

  • Capability to frame issues, makeconclusions and articulate recommendations to enable quick and sounddecision-making.

  • Abilityto demonstrate an understanding and passion for retail
