Victoria Walker at the CK Group is currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to join a coatings manufacturing company. The company are flexible regarding experience level and will accept applications from experienced R&D technicians or alternatively, chemistry graduates. This coatings manufacturing company is based in Worcestershire and the role is on a full time, permanent basis.

The Company:
Our client is part of a well-established international group of companies focused on the supply and development of specialist chemical and paint products and processes for the finishing industry. With many years of experience in providing organic coatings, with significant success in the glass industry the company wishes to further expand its technology, both in this and other markets. Within their Paint & Coatings team and reporting to the Paint Technical Manager, the R&D Technician will receive a small performance related bonus as well as a pension scheme, 20 days holiday + 8 bank holidays (+ time off at Christmas which is not taken out of your holiday allowance), and salary will be in the region of GBP22-30,000 depending on experience. Hours are 8.30-5pm Monday - Thursday with an early finish on a Friday. Please note that due to the requirement to recognise colour differentials, full colour
vision is an essential requirement. Some UK and international travel will eventually be required in this role and therefore a driving license is preferable. The role will develop over time so the company is looking for a flexible and adaptable candidate who is keen to take on additional responsibility to help to move the company forward. Full training will be provided but the role would suit an individual who is self-motivated as they will plan their own workloads once all actions have been agreed and prioritised.

This role is located Worcestershire, commutable from Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Herefordshire.

The Role:
Your main duties will be:
?? Active participation in the development of new paints and coatings
?? Progressing projects, safely and efficiently
?? Evaluating raw materials and selecting chemistries for formulation
?? Testing of paints and coatings to relevant international and company standards
?? Production of regular reports on development activities and communicate results to other staff members
?? Discussion of problems and resolutions with customers and the sales team to provide technical support
?? Supporting internal QA and manufacturing staff with technical issues

Your Background:
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
-preferably R&D and testing experience within the paints and coatings industry
-chemistry graduates/chemistry graduates with work experience may be considered
-experience of testing via viscosity, specific gravity, adhesion and resistance would be advantageous
-full colour vision - essential requirement
-driving license - preferable
-ability to communicate with clients and members of staff
-scrupulous attention to detail, well organised and a team player
-understanding of laboratory equipment
-ability to recognise colour differentials
-excellent IT skills
-experience in paint application, manufacturing methods and R & D would be an advantage
