Our prestigious Shrewsbury based client are looking to recruit a Laboratory Chemist, ideally you should have BSC in Applied or Analytical Chemistry or Similar or BTEC HNC Chemistry or Physics or equivalent. This role is based in an analytical chemistry laboratory where you will be involved with testing and using various instruments. You must be competent in Maths and English with the flexibility to work overtime as and when required.

Duties and responsibilities:

* To test raw materials received on site against written specifications to ensure suitability for use.

* To test product batch samples, taken from the blending process, to confirm adherence to the written specification.

* To recommend adjustments to products found to fall outside of the written specification and to re-test following the blend adjustments.

* To identify non-conforming raw materials and products and to recommend corrective actions (along with the Laboratory Supervisor and Technical Director) to enable product to be utilised safely and economically or returned to the supplier.

* To maintain individual notebooks and written Laboratory records in a neat and tidy form in accordance with quality and audit requirements.

* To enter results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and issue blend pass/fail/adjustment instructions to Works operatives.

* To issue blend recipes/formulations to blending operatives as requested.

* To aid with daily, monthly and annual calibration of laboratory instrumentation and equipment in accordance with quality standards.

* To occasionally supervise students and temporary staff and give training in the use of instrumentation.

* To Issue Certificates of Conformity for finished products supplied to customers when requested in conjunction with the Laboratory Supervisor.

* Bring to the attention of the Laboratory Supervisor any manufactured products that are regularly out of the written specification or have been 'concessioned' (i.e. allowed to pass through QA with minor specification failures).

* To aid investigations relating to customer complaints of finished products by performing test work and carrying out investigations into product batch history.

* To aid testing and evaluation of alternative raw materials (with the Group Technical Director) to ensure product quality is acceptable.

* Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by your Manager or other Senior Management. The performance of these duties is subject to you having the requisite skills/training to carry out the alternative work.
