What's involved?

The caf?? is for people under 65 with a diagnosis of dementia and their families and friends. The role will entail welcoming and encouraging people with dementia who attend and their carer to participate in the day's activities to enable them to feel comfortable and included. You will help staff to provide information, serve refreshments, and engage in supportive discussions and conversations. There will be opportunities to help with social activities and generally ensure people with dementia have a great time within a caring and safe environment. If you have a welcoming, compassionate and have a supportive attitude, can demonstrate empathy this could be a perfect role for you.

Why is there a need for this type of group?

Dementia is not restricted to older people, it is currently estimated that over 42,000 people live with Early Onset Dementia (before the age of 65) in the UK. For these younger individuals and their families, dementia can reveal some acute challenges. These include being in work at the time of diagnosis, have heavy financial commitments, such as mortgage or needing to care for an elderly parent.

This role will suit you if you are...

•Helping set out the room in an agreed layout

•Putting out signage and recording attendees

•Preparing and distributing simple refreshments, collecting in and washing items used

•Welcoming and talking with people with dementia and carers of people with dementia

•Liaising with the group leader to support planned group activities

•Supporting the group leader by encouraging participation

•Supporting the collection of feedback from the groups

•Utilising any specific skills you may have, with local manager agreement in line with identified needs and following appropriate risk assessment and insurance assessment

•Tidying up the room after the session

•Following service standards, specifications and boundaries, recognising the range of policies and procedures that impact on the activity being carried out.

The impact you'll make:

You will be helping people who are coming to terms with life with dementia and their families. You will be supporting and learning from a team of experienced Dementia Navigators.

Where and when is the group?

Once a month -FourthTuesday from 11am -1pm. Warwick Space, 71 Coten End, Warwick, CV34 4NU
