Support Workers (Learning Disabilities)

Job Type:  Full-time (38 hours), part-time and flexi positions available

Closing Date: 04/07/2018 – interviews are being held on a weekly basis

Hourly rate for contracted posts:  £7.86 - £8.29 depending on experience and qualifications

Hourly rate for flexi/bank posts: £8.81 (includes 95p in lieu of holiday entitlement)

We've been expanding our services during the last 12 months and currently have roles available across a number of locations in Shropshire.  We have a strong record of delivering high quality supported living services for adults with learning disabilities and are a not-for-profit registered charity firmly established in the East Midlands, Wales, and Shropshire.

Our full-time and part-time vacancies in the Shrewsbury area are currently only available to Female applicants due to the personal care needs of the people we support - exemption is claimed as a genuine occupational requirement within the meaning of the Equalities Act.  All the Oswestry and Bridgnorth vacancies are open to males and females.

Flexi/Bank positions are open to Male and Female Applicants

As a support worker for Perthyn, you will promote the well-being and independence of individuals with a learning disability. You'll provide a person centred service in individuals' own homes, where you will give them opportunities to develop their skills and participate within their community, according to their interests and abilities.

You will build a strong relationship with the people you support to really understand how to engage and help them develop a variety of practical and social skills. You will empathise with their problems and provide manageable solutions.

We're looking for people who share our values, have an empathetic nature and a professional approach, along with a range of basic life skills. We need you to have the capability to take responsibility for a person’s well-being and to encourage individuality.

Key Personal Attributes:

  • Empathy, Basic life skills, Professionalism and a sense of responsibility, ability to communicate effectively, work as part of team, have a desire to learn and make decisions
  • Preferably hold a full UK driving licence but non drivers will be considered if able to get to shifts which will include unsociable hours (The Wheels to Work scheme might be able to help)
  • Flexibility to work across a range of shifts on a rota basis as we offer 24/7 support (this might include days/evenings/occasional night-wakes and sleep-ins/weekends and bank holidays)
