Chairperson (volunteer role for two years)

North East England Nature Partnership is seeking to recruit a new Chairperson (volunteer role for two years).

North East England has a rich and varied environment incorporating coastal, rural and urban landscapes covered by a range of international, national and local designations. These high quality landscapes and the natural environments they support are intrinsically valuable and many are visually pleasing, creating iconic views that are known across the world.

These landscapes also provide benefits that enhance economic performance, offer new opportunities for investment and employment, and improve living standards and quality of life. A healthy ecosystem, rich in biodiversity is an environmental asset and the value of these services across all sectors is starting to be recognised and incorporated into decision making.

However, biodiversity is still declining dramatic! ally and faces increased threats from climate change, development pressures, intensified food production and other human activity. Our exceptional natural environment mustn't be taken for granted and environmental concerns must be at the heart of decision making.

North East England Nature Partnership aims is to reverse this decline, allowing North East England to become a region of Environmental Growth.


North East England Nature Partnership is seeking a new Chairperson to provide senior leadership to drive forward Environmental Growth. We require someone who can influence and act as an advocate for delivery of the Partnership's vision. This enthusiastic individual must have a passion to make the North East the best place to be and recognise the role the natural environment plays in achieving this. They must have experience of and strong links to the business community and want to ensure that economic activity has a positive effect on our natural environment.

Purpose of Role
* Provide leadership and be the public face of the North East England Nature Partnership
* Extend the network, influence and resources of the North East England Nature Partnership
* Facilitate a high performing Executive Group
* Ensure the partnership achieves continues improvement
* Support and mentor Capability North East Staff

The role of Chair is unpaid, but travel and expenses will be reimbursed.

To support activity and provide funding, the partnership has recently established a charitable business, Capability North East. This is operating a sustainability consultancy and aims to create a significant investment fund to support the enhancement of our natural environment for the benefit of future generations.
