To manage the business efficiently and provide guidance to the team of technicians to ensure customer satisfaction measures & workshop targets are met. To provide and maintain excellent first line communication with Mobile Engineers and customers to assist with the smooth running of the operation. Using existing skills in relation to heavy commercial vehicle mechanics, to liaise with the Mobile Engineers to diagnose faults, source replacement parts and agree final repairs in line with customer parameters in an office based environment

Technical Controller Responsibilities include:

  • Providing Technical expertise to Service Technicians and proactively reviewing issues to seek opportunities that will help drive performance.

  • Maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction by implementing quality checks, resolving any issues, and re-assuring customers by providing all necessary information and advice.

  • Maintaining relationships with vehicle manufacturer and providing technical information for Technicians during repair operations

  • Complying with Health & Safety regulations and ensuring high standards of housekeeping and security are achieved and maintained within the workshop and surrounding areas

  • To arrange on site servicing and inspection of trailers via use of Mobile Engineers

  • To arrange all customer repair work via Mobile Engineers being mechanical, electrical, or body work ensuring it is carried out in a timely manner and meets Customer required standards

  • To arrange the preparation of customers trailers for VOSA test on site

  • To arrange assistance as and when required for road side breakdowns on customers trailers both in and out of normal working hours

  • Liaise with parts supplier, using the company ordering process to ensure that all parts required are supplied in a timely manner.

  • Ensure that all Health and Safety requirements are fully complied

  • Ensure that all work carried out by Mobile Engineers meets quality standards.

  • Provide technical support for Tier 1 Controllers

  • Technical liaison with Mobile Engineers

  • Lead MOT failure investigations

  • Commercial Vehicle Service, MOT planner adherence

  • Warranty performance

  • Translating technical information to colleagues

  • Provide technical support for Company Engineers

  • Provide technical support for Contract Managers

  • Vetting third party costs, in conjunction with the MSU Controller

  • Attend customer meetings upon request

  • Work with the management team regarding training requirements for the team

What we're looking for in a Technical Controller:

  • Prior experience as a senior technician or workshop controller is preferred

  • Demonstrable technical mechanical knowledge of vehicles is essential within a workshop environment or similar

  • Mechanical HGV/LCV experience and qualifications are desirable

  • In depth knowledge of trailer maintenance requirements and regulations

  • Minimum of 3 years experienced in a similar role

  • Self-motivated

  • Good communication skills and telephone manner

  • Understanding of Health and Safety requirements.

  • Competent IT skills and knowledge

  • Ability to work to deadlines and work calmly under pressure

  • A working knowledge of automotive technology, warranty systems and the brand would be beneficial

  • The ability to exceed targets and deadlines is a must.

  • A full, valid and clean UK driving license

  • Computer literate including Microsoft Office

Required experience:

  • Workshop Control/Supervisor, Mechanic, Technician - 3-5 years

  • City & Guilds

  • Engineering qualifications or similar
