About the role:

As the Transport Manager you will manage and coordinate all logistics activities for the area, driving best practise and efficiency in vehicle availability and utilisation, ensuring Company Policy is adhered to at all times. Named on the relevant O licences for the operations and responsible for maintaining full compliance in accordance with O licence requirements, fulfilling all legal obligations for the Company and protecting the good repute of Marshalls. Accountable for all activities carried out personally and by the team (health; safety and environment; quality; people; performance standards) in defined area of responsibility.


- Management of safety / environmental incidents, including road traffic collisions, ensuring all events are reported, recorded, investigated and concluded in line with Company procedures
- Ensuring that the team are trained in risk assessments / SOPs and that the risk assessments / SOPs are available lineside at all times
- Ensuring that team are made available for routine health surveillance and that an environment exists where team members make any potential health issues known
- Communication to team of Health, Safety, Environmental issues from other areas of site / business
- Assist proactively with complaint investigation and feedback to drive improvement and prevent reoccurrence
- Ensuring that a skills matrix for team is maintained and that the team are developed to provide flexibility
- Delivery of team briefs / toolbox talks in a timely manner and spirit in which they are intended
- Give and receive training as is required in line with business needs and individual PDPs
- Regularly review team member's progress through 1 to 1s, PDPs and corrective coaching conversations in line with company procedure
- Maximise flexibility for planning department, managing drivers start and finish times in accordance with planned work
- Maintain the highest standards of fleet hygiene which contributes to the highest perception of the Marshalls brand

About you:

- GCSE or equivalent (A to C qualifications. Math's & English essential), A-level / Degree standard desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH General Certificate is desirable
- Other relevant qualifications e.g. ILM, Lean Six Sigma is desirable
- National CPC or the willingness to undertake and attain this professional qualification and be named on the relevant O Licence is essential
- A full UK driving licence
- Significant experience in a first-line supervisory logistics support role
- Substantial experience in a transport driving or planning function
- Experience of operating with responsibility for a team of 10 or more employees
- Ideally some experience of operating in a traditional employee relations climate / heavily unionised environment
- A knowledge & understanding of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
- Some experience of implementing continuous improvement / lean manufacturing techniques e.g. DMAIC, would be an advantage
