Job Purpose:

To ensure that paint processes are in place for all new and existing products, aligned to producing parts to customer specification, in a controlled and cost effective manner.


To work within, develop and offer the best available technology linked to the business strategy. Work on own initiative and within project and production teams to ensure the maximum performance and quality targets are achieved on a sustainable basis. Role of Department:

Working within a support service role to the manufacturing operation, the Process Engineering department will be responsible for new product introduction, facility and installations, process optimisation, R & D, pre product builds and yield improvement activities. To drive a philosophy of defect prevention, rather than inspection, through the adoption, implementation and policing of the company Quality System.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the implementation of new products and processes within the group.
Act as the interface between Engineering and Production teams for new product development.
Support Paint Development Manager to specify paint systems on new products.
Define pre-treatments of substrates, e.g. abrading, cleaning, flaming, de-ionisation etc.
Development of new painting techniques and application processes.
Develop and implement masking solutions, as required by product.
Support and liaison between technical and production in the design of paint Jigs, to optimise populations and yield.
Define kitchen controls, in accordance with supplier TDS documents, to include viscosities, filtering and temperature compliance.
Define and establish process controls, for paint application and associated in-line pre/post paint operations.
Ensure that application methods meet TDS requirements and wave-scan specification.
Support colour maturation, using Bykmac measurement, to customer requirements.
Manage production trials and gather/record appropriate data.
Submit parts to test laboratory and complete necessary test requests for approval of new paint systems/engineering changes.
Define standardised work involved with painting and associated operations.
Deliver new products on time, to meet capacity demand, in line with standard costs.
Ensure a smooth hand over of new projects to customer specification & prod'n targets.
Champion Right First Time activity from the paint processes, with formal action plans and progress reporting.
Knowledge of in process testing techniques (crosshatch adhesion, film build analysis).
Provide technical/process support to the production teams.
Ensure a robust TPM procedure is in place to maintain the integrity of paint jigs.
Deliver solutions to process issues in the manual & automated processes
Support 8D initiatives and FMEA activities.
Ensure all safety procedures, methods, equipment and practices are adhered to including house keeping
Prepare detailed reports and figures and deliver KPI'S measurables as required.
Liaise with the Process teams to propose, plan and manage continuous improvement activities
Share Product / technical knowledge within the team
Source and propose paint process improvements working with Paint Suppliers and the Paint Development Manager.
Take the technical lead on filter discussions and management working with suppliers.
Take the technical lead on paint equipment specification working with suppliers and the operations team.
Where required assist the commercial team with feasibility and aid the quotation of new business.
Support business growth opportunities.
Be flexible to support other teams and carry out reasonable tasks as requested by your Manager in line with Department/Company objectives.
Reduce the overall cost of manufacturing year on year.
Recommend improvements to meet the overall business standards for processes and systems, constantly strive to be proactive and drive continuous improvement.
Support the Production Manager on yield matrix analysis. Support and offer advice to teams to counter act negative trends, if and when they occur.
Carry out continuous improvement initiatives and provide support to the business Goal Deployment Plans.
Research and develop new processes that will add value to the business.
Provide training, advice and support to process teams within the group.
Ensure improvements are sustainable and add value.
Demonstrate a hands on approach as required.
Support a flexible working pattern as required.
Work with the process teams or individually on allocated projects / tasks.
Understand the importance of your commitment to the Process Engineering Department and continually strive to achieve an excellent working relationship as a supportive team member.
Ensure correct PPE is worn at all times.
Always be professional in your attitude to the job and in a manner with which you conduct your duties.
Always present a professional image when communicating internally and externally, there will be frequent contact with suppliers and customers.
Always be punctual and reliable. To notify your Manager if you are to be late or absent from work due to unforeseen circumstances. To follow Company notification procedures.
Attend a quarterly 1-to-1 with your Manager.
Maintain your personal Training Matrix validations (PF566), ensuring they are accurately completed by yourself, trainers and the validating manager.
You will be expected to learn and develop additional skills to maximise a multi-skilled approach.
Ensure that you understand and comply with Health and safety at work regulations and Comply with Health and Safety at all times.
Drive and support the requirements to up hold accreditations (TS 16949 & ISO 14001).
Carry out all tasks within your scope of work in a safe manner and as set out in the relevant procedures and work instructions.
Report all accidents, potential near miss/risk situations and defective equipment using the agreed procedure and wear Company issued PPE without fail.

Key Performance Indicators:

Achieve all set KPI'S and objectives.
Absence and Sickness levels must be below 2%
Uphold audit accreditation for TS 16949 & ISO 14001.
Ensure all process documentation is in place and populated.
Ensure yield negatives are dealt with in a timely manner and documented.
Ensure TPM activities are up to date and documented.
All programs in line with customer demand and in line with plant utilisation and efficiency requirements.
Feasibility studies on time and in full.
