To manage the production, quality, cost, delivery and health & safety aspects of both the people and processes associated within the department.
Key Areas of the Role
1) The management of production output to the required delivery dates and the required quality.
2) To plan and implement efficient and productive deployment of labour including the management of holidays, absence and overtime.
3) To develop and promote a team working culture and to initiate the implementation of Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques.
4) The Training, Welfare and Health & Safety of the Production Team.
Key Area 1 – The Management of production output to the required delivery dates and the required quality.
To plan & achieve daily output from the production processes using the production plan
To attend daily/weekly production meetings
To implement any recovery/contingency plans required
To implement visual monitors, control & measurements
To initiate and hold weekly quality forums for both internal and customer rejects, thereby creating a quality culture throughout the department
To positively engage in communication with the quality department and display visible targets and improvements
To implement & promote a pro-active approach to problems/quality initiatives
Key Area 2 – To plan and implement efficient and productive deployment of labour including the management of holidays, absence and overtime
To develop & build excellent relationships with Supervisors, including encouraging cross functional communication between teams
Introduce simple but effective visual documentation to process and procedures
To manage absenteeism via return to work interviews
To monitor, allocate and manage overtime with budgetary constraints
To best allocate resources to achieve the production plan
Key Area 3 – To develop and promote a team working culture and to initiate the implementation of Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques
Promote a positive approach and ‘can do’ attitude to activities/problems
Identify and nurture individuals for development and future promotion
Encourage individuals to participate and communicate
Understand and implement value adding activities/remove waste, ie: JIT, Kaizen, benchmarking, process flow techniques
Create the flexibility of skills
Promote and implement good housekeeping principles
Make the process simple, predictable and reliable
To install a culture of open and honest communication, self help and team development
Key Area 4 – To manage the Training, Welfare and Health & Safety of the Production Team
To monitor and manage the training requirement of the Production Team
To manage and promote a safe environment at work
Promote best practice for Health & Safety processes and procedures
Attend monthly Health & Safety meetings
To promote a positive attitude/culture throughout the department towards Health & Safety
To ensure cleanliness and tidiness, with a ‘place for everything and everything in the right place’ approach
