If leading the product development strategy and creating and owning the standards and processes of embedded systems design across a company would be of interest to you then this could be a fantastic opportunity indeed.

As electronics engineering and embedded software development has matured within this company's portfolio of products, so too has the need to develop robust engineering processes, standards and strategy. This lead engineer opening is an integral part to the success of the company's embedded systems design operation.

The company designs and manufactures equipment for markets worldwide which incorporate safety critical software, complex machine control and engine management systems, and has product development teams based internationally. You will be responsible for developing and improving process for electronics and software design across these teams.

The ideal candidate would be a proven electronics engineer OR embedded software engineer with a broad appreciation of hardware and software. The ability to create, own and improve processes and standards is more important than industry / product knowledge.

The role would suit a principal engineer, team leader or engineering manager that has been exposed to similar tasks and objectives.

Skills / Knowledge Required:
• A degree or similar in a relevant subject (e.g. electronics engineering, computer science, software engineering or similar)
• Extensive product development experience covering the complete lifecycle from concept through design, development, test, validation into manufacturing.
• Excellent understanding of electronics design and embedded systems (ideally analogue and digital electronics, control systems and embedded software.)
• Excellent organisational and project management skills coupled with good communication skills and leadership (in time this role may require leading a team)
• Experience of development and leading process improvement programmes relating t product development (including hardware and software reuse, modular design, strategy, etc)
• Experience of working with 3rd party design partners (supplier audits, supplier design reviews etc)
• Able to develop robust product specifications and requirements for future product architecture coupled with a good appreciation of V Model systems approach

Others: Experience of any of the following would be useful: MISRA, ISO26262, IEC61508, DOORS. Also Matlab / Simulink, vehicle network protocols (CAN / LIN / FlexRay) and CAN / Vector analysis tools. Any experience of the automotive, rail, aerospace or construction machinery market would be advantageous.

Finally, it is likely that candidates may currently be a principal electronics engineer, perhaps an electronics manager, engineering manager or technical project manager but a strong understanding of electronics and embedded software is vital
