Project Manager - Mayoral Mentoring Scheme
Salary: £31,297 to £35,564 per annum + Excellent Benefits
Hours: 36œ hours per week (Fixed Term until 07/05/2020)

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is comprised of 18 local authorities and four Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) working collectively to champion the region nationally and internationally.

The Combined Authority will add value to existing local authority delivery, bringing scale and focus to our combined agendas and integrating activity across transport, housing, employment and skills.

Our focus is accelerating economic growth, building on our existing strengths in key sectors and developing new expertise in the creative and digital sectors, life sciences, building technologies and connected autonomous vehicles.

At the same time, we know that we need to do more to ensure that all of our residents have a stake in this future. This role is critical to our ambition for inclusive growth - connecting more of our communities into the great jobs and careers that our economy will deliver.

The WMCA and Mayor Andy Street are working in partnership with One Million Mentors (1MM) and the Careers Enterprise Company (CEC) to deliver Mayor's Mentors, an innovative new programme that aims to match young people to opportunity, with a focus on helping those who are more disadvantaged to realise their potential.

The programme will match 1,000 young people, with 1,000 business mentors across Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Coventry in the first year. The intention is then to extend to the Black Country more widely in year 2, targeting 4,000 young people, with a target of 10,000 young people across the West Midlands by year 3.

The role will require close working with the Mayor's office and other key stakeholders to develop and integrate mentoring relationships across the region. The ability to develop and deliver good partnerships will be critical.

Key competencies:
- Experience of pitching an idea to organisations such as schools and businesses
- Good oral and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate an idea clearly
- Good written skills, with the ability to accurately summarise key information
- The ability to create concise and engaging powerpoint presentations
- Sensitivity - with the ability to exercise discretion, judgement and confidentiality
- Excellent organisational skills, especially in keeping clear records
- A positive, can do, attitude
