I am currently recruiting for a Quality Manager to join an engineering client in Birmingham.

The business is a leader in railway rolling stock engineering, enhancement and systems integration and provides high quality turnkey project and consultancy services to maximise vehicle utilisation and performance. With excellent rail engineering, production and project management skills; the company operates from design and engineering offices in Birmingham and from a range of project facilities to suit vehicle and fleet locations.

Main Responsibilities:

Responsible for assisting the QHSE Manager in all aspects of quality activities in relation to the company's BS EN ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001, Rail Industry / Client accreditation's.
Review of company procedures and processes to ensure that continuous improvements are maintained to meet company business objectives, strategy, customer expectations and meet any legislative requirements.
Management and development of the companies, safety critical work competency management system, approvals, procedures & training records.
This will also include assisting with the company's Health, Safety & Environmental systems and procedures within the main offices, on site locations and advising on issues pertaining to meeting applicable legislation and regulations within the company.

Reporting to QHSE manager on the company's quality performance and recommendations for improvement.
Management of Internal / External audit processes.
Management of key company processes to include: Surveillance audits at work locations, SQA activities Liaising with procurement (First Article Inspection audits, surveillance at suppliers to monitor conformance /performance and produce formal reports.
Ensuring site staff competence assessments and records are maintained and developed as part of the company's risk management strategy.

Required Skills and Experience:

Strong practical knowledge and expertise in the implementation and on-going development of management systems, based on recognised standards such as BS EN ISO 9001.
Strong practical knowledge and expertise in the implementation and on-going development of management systems to meet the requirements of the Rail Industry Supplier Approval Scheme (RISAS) & Rail Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS)
Recognised external Lead auditor qualification.
Understanding of a competence management system for safety critical supply & services.
Effective communication skills including report writing and the ability to influence and interface with senior management, customers, suppliers and company staff across all levels.
Relevant expertise in developing audit programmes for a similar organisation.

Workings of a Quality Management System within the rail industry.
Detailed knowledge of ISO 9001.
Excellent understanding of auditing and audit schedules.
Understanding of competency management systems.
Understanding of 8D reports, Design and Process FMEA's to assist investigations and preventative measures to be adopted.

Good team ethic, communication skills and ability to be part of finding solutions to any issues they raise during work activities.
Be able to manage staff in a fair and impartial manner and plan work activities to achieve company objectives.
To inform and update on Quality Issues to all levels of seniority.
