Job Title: School Nurse
Location: Warwick
Temporary until July
Hours: 8:45am – 4pm
Main Purpose of Post
The principle responsibility of the School Nurse is to support pupils’ health and wellbeing in order for pupils to fully participate in an active school life. The school nurse will identify and treat health disorders among students and provides instruction in the maintenance of good health and disease prevention. The school nurse must evaluate the physical conditions of students and refer students to appropriate resources as needed.
Specific Duties to include
• Treating pupils as appropriate, performing necessary health checks to assist with diagnosis. Administering medication according to School policy
• Ensuring all medical information is received prior to new pupils starting and that relevant information is disseminated accordingly
• Maintaining Medical Information on all pupils and where necessary ensuring individual Health Care Plans are in place
• Develops policies, procedures and work standards for school health program
• Monitors compliance of school health program with local authority and government regulations and policies
• Prepares monthly health reports for the principal and designated safeguarding lead
• Collaborates with other child-support agencies in designing and providing a school program
• Negotiates professional and medical services essential to the school health program
• Provides first aid care and medically prescribed services
• Serves as a resource person on health issues
• Screens and conducts health appraisals for students as required
• Liaise with relevant parents to ensure effective and efficient service
• Ensuring that the medical room is appropriately stocked and equipped, ensuring safe storage, usage and disposal of medical supplies and drugs
• Assist in the promotion of health education within the School
• Safeguarding working with children, young people and their families taking all reasonable measures to ensure that the risks of harm to children’s welfare are minimised and understand the safeguarding policy and procedures
• The post holder is required to operate within School policies, including Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety
• The job description is current but liable to variation to reflect or anticipate changes in the requirements of the post
• Any other duties reasonably requested by the school
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
• Candidates must possess a nursing qualification RSCN or RGN qualified nurse
• Candidates will ideally have experience of working with children and in a school
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to facilitate understanding with parents and external professionals of the needs of children in their care
• A professional and warm approach to communication with children, parents and teachers regarding sensitive issues
• A dedication and commitment to fairness and equal opportunities for students of different backgrounds and with different learning styles
