Senior Housing Enforcement Officer
My Staffordshire based Local Authority are looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join their team as a Senior Housing Enforcement Officer.
As a Senior Housing Enforcement Officer within the Private Sector Housing team, you will be tasked with investigating complaints surrounding poor housing conditions across the Council's portfolio of housing stock. You will conduct both proactive and reactive inspections of HMO's, identifying states of disrepair and other hazards using the Housing, Health and Safety Rating System. In cases of non-compliance, you will be responsible for using appropriate licensing and enforcement powers to ultimately bring the properties up to statuary and council standards. If required, you will assist in preparing prosecution papers and give evidence at Magistrates Court.
Ideally you will have a degree in Environmental Health and be registered member of the EHRB.
However this is not essential and the Council are willing to consider Housing professionals with enough relevant experience - You will have worked in a similar capacity at either a Local Authority or County Council dealing with rogue landlords and issues surrounding Private Sector housing. It is crucial that you have an excellent understanding of the regulatory framework, guidance and good practice in relation to the Housing Act and HHSRS assessments. Prior experience of carrying out proactive work especially the registration and licensing of privately rented houses and Houses in Multiple Occupation is essential.
