Role: Paint Technician

Location: Telford

The main purpose of the role:

The Paint Technician will utilize the paint application parameters in accordance with our customers' specifications.

• Ensure the set-up of paint application equipment in the paint shop for all possible paint applications, in accordance with standards and best practices,
• Responsibility for top-up and maintenance of paint application equipment
• Work in team with plant staff to achieve quality requirements i.e. colour matching, leveling, adhesion, etc.
• Create and improves paint application parameters (i.e. paint consumption, cycle time, etc.).
• Develop continuous improvements and sustainable solutions for paint application in accordance with project and plant requirements
• Ensure the development of new products, the commissioning of the pumps and piggable system for the new paint line and the support for the control plan updates.
• 5 years in paint for plastic parts or paint process on automotive OEMs.
• Liaise with the Engineering department regarding NPI
• Assist in product feasibility during NPI quotation


- Minimum 3-5 years experience in similar role
- Professional qualifications preferred
- Automotive development process experience
- Literate in IAFT16949 (TS16949)
- Familiar with OEM supplier quality expectations (JLRQ etc)
- Experience of robotic paint lines
- Experience of piggable delivery systems
- Experience of robotic colour control
- Experience of robotic application, 1K & 2K application and technical finish (Bell & E stat application would also be of benefit)
- Ability to communicate effectively and ensure comprehension across a diverse workforce
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- PC literate


- Maintain paint delivery at peak efficiency
- Review line/product yields to define opportunities from improvement
- Maintain Paint delivery system and pumps
- Assess current technology for effectiveness and compare to new technology within the industry
- Partake in yearly CI planning
- Partake in yearly capital planning
- Assist with Technical team training and gap analysis
- Operate a stand in for Team leader position


- Ensure that all departmental work is carried out in line with work instructions and QMS
- Review robot operations in a structured manner LPA/PDCA/CCAR
- Collate and monitor paint line yield and environmental KPIs/Trends/SPC charts for sharing with the wider team
- Develop, control and measure process parameters


- Ensure that the paint plant delivery system operates at a peak RFT, at all times
- Deliver technical solutions to process problems
- Ensure the NPI requirements are met in line with customer builds


- Support business development opportunities
- Monitor and optimize paint waste during colour changes
- Assist, suggest and lead CI activity
