Babcock International Group is a FTSE 250 business and is the UK's leading engineering support services organisation.

Our Skills & Learning business is one of the UK's largest private sector providers of vocational and skills training. We work in partnership major employers across the Service and Engineering sectors to help develop their people.

We have ambitious growth plans in 2018 and are looking for the best talent to join the team.

As an Electrical Craft Instructor you will come from electrical mechanical background, having recent practical knowledge of the hands on engineering that you will be teaching. The role would be a great opportunity for applicants who are looking to move into an academic environment from commercial engineering. We will put together a range of courses to develop training skills and techniques in line with the methodology used within the courses. The role holder could potentially come from a range of sectors where electrical engineering is part of large scale production such as the motor industry.

You will work within the impressive client training centre alongside the other trainers who focus on academic and other practical skills of the courses provided. The centre has a relaxed business focussed atmosphere; it is very well-equipped, with class room, technical craft rooms with all the relevant equipment for the courses, quiet study areas, break out areas and free parking.

The training is part of the 20 week initial training course that all apprentices on this course complete at the start of their 3 year apprenticeship. Each class is kept to a maximum of 8 candidates per instructor within classes of up to 16 apprentices for the craft / practical course sessions to ensure that the apprentices' training can be effectively delivered. Craft / practical courses will make use of the mechanical devices and bench fitting tools that are provided for each apprentice in the class within the craft rooms.

The training that the team provide is key to the success of our apprentices completing the course successfully. To ensure this we are looking for candidates to demonstrate -

  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to work within a culture of high performance, focussed on results
  • Flexible approach to work, able to adapt and innovate creating solutions
  • Ability to clearly communicate key technical knowledge to learners

This is a unique opportunity for the right candidate to apply technical practical engineering experience in to the training of the engineers of the future.

This role requires an enhanced DBS through the Disclosure and Barring Service and military security clearance.

Offers of employment are normally subject to satisfactory references and any other required pre-employment checks. In certain circumstances, successful applicants will need to satisfy security clearance requirements.
