An experienced VB.Net Developer with strong knowledge of VB.Net, ******* Web Forms and SQL databases is sought by a registered charity who regulate the Landfills Community Fund, providing guidance on the allocation and protection of funds. The charity assesses all projects before any LCF money is spent in order to ensure the project is clearly going to deliver an approved object.

The Role:

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive, as the VB.Net Developer (known formally within the business as IT Systems Officer) you will provide strong business analysis services across the organisation, and will develop high-quality and accurate management information reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) based on data provided via the company's bespoke online system.

Your day to day duties will include:

  • Maintenance and support of our bespoke system EOL, which is built on the Microsoft .NET 2 framework and compromises of a HTML front end backed with VB.NET code behind and uses a Microsoft SQL Server database in the backend.
  • Work with colleagues to develop specifications for system changes and developments
  • Develop the online system, ensuring version updates are well controlled and implemented within agreed timeframes in VB.Net
  • Testing of system changes within the test environment prior to release to the live system
  • Develop and produce high quality management information reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS 2008)
  • The development and support of ENTRUST's IT solutions;
  • Administration and maintenance of servers and operating systems;
  • Review internal work processes and develop IT solutions to enhance efficiency and recommend alternate solutions to enhance current IT systems, identifying system issues and solutions;
  • Assist in the development of the corporate website, including content updates;
  • Ensure that all of ENTRUST's IT systems are fully documented and all documentation is maintained to best practice standards;
  • In liaison with IT Support Officer ensure that the appropriate IT Business Continuity provisions are in place and effective; and
  • Working where required with appointed contractors
  • Provide day-to-day IT helpdesk support to all users, including Entrust staff and external EOL users; and
  • Ensure that the appropriate IT Business Continuity provisions are in place and effective to ensure that EOL system remains available to users on a 24/7 basis.
  • Ensure that all data is stored in compliance with the Data Protection Act and GDPR

The successful VB.Net Developer will demonstrate:

  • Full professional competency in SQL 2008 including: SQL databases, SQL reporting tools (preferably SQL 2008 SSRS), Views, Stored Procedures, Triggers and functions, and administering, monitoring and testing SQL databases is essential
  • Practical experience of administering Internet Information Server (IIS) preferably 7/7.5 is desirable
  • Ability to understand/debug existing ******* 2.0 Web Forms application code and resolve bugs and make new enhancements to existing ******* 2.0 Web Forms code
  • Experience of using version control, particularly Subversion/Git
  • Experience with CSS/HTML/Javascript
  • Experience with deploying websites onto IIS and troubleshooting issues
  • Knowledge of Microsoft .NET 2 and VB.NET is desirable
  • The ability to develop system specifications and test scripts is desirable
  • Ability to administer Windows Server 2008 would be desirable, but training will be provided if required
  • Proven record of prioritising and delivering objectives
  • Proven experience of developing and implementing change
  • Experience of development and management of appropriate business relationships
  • MCSA SQL 2008 or ISEB Testing Certification would be advantageous
  • MCTS Certification and experience of administering Windows Server architecture, would be advantageous
  • Previous experience of delivering new systems within a medium sized organisation
  • Proven experience of implementing best practice security models for SQL server infrastructures
  • An understanding of the requirements of the Data Protection Act and other relevant legislation/best practice
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 2007/2010/2016
