Registered Care Home Manager

Key Role

To ensure that the overall Aims, Objectives and Philosophy of Motivations Activity Projects Ltd are achieved through the maintenance of good quality practice in Residential Social Work and Education.

It is extremely important that this post holder work in conjunction with the Head of Care to promote the Directors original ethos for the organisation.

It is the role of a Registered Home Manager to be responsible to the Head of Care and for the management of the resource as a whole.

Home Manager needs to keep the Head of Care updated weekly.

Any other duty(ies) that may reasonably be required from time to time, following consultation, by the Partners

To be part of the On Call manager team as per rota.

Managing Service Delivery

To promote normal development of children and young people.

Protect children and young people from threats to health, welfare and normal development inside and outside of the home environment.

Ensure home environment is appropriate and sensitive to needs of children and young people looked after.

Gearing the running of the home to meet the express needs of the child or young person accommodated.

Using the residential community as a means of support and social learning for the child or young person.

Managing the home through procedures, policies and activities engaged in to provide a positive and enjoyable experience for the child or young person they are responsible for.

Ensuring key stages in the stay of the child or young person such as admissions, discharge, transfers are properly managed and recorded.

Ensuring that a child or young person in crisis or stress is offered appropriate support.

Ensure staff dealing with complex cases are given support and advice.

To participate in monitoring, recording and development of care plans.

To ensure all staff promote and participate in the education of the child or young person and take a lead role in project work, ACE activities and education work within the home.

Develop and maintain professional relationships with social workers, teaching staff and other professionals from associated agencies engaged in childcare.

To ensure specific needs of the child or young person are met such as dietary requirements or religious and cultural activities.

To ensure that the child or young person cared for has as much responsibility for his or her own lives as possible and as appropriate.

To inform the child or young person of their circumstances and rights.

To involve the child or young person in planning and supporting their development and encouraging them to take greater control and responsibility of their own lives.

To provide on-going support as required.

To ensure compliance with Care Standards Act 2000 and the Children Act 1989.

To assist the Head of Care in:

Providing leadership and guidance to assist in the development of staff.

To have responsibility in the deployment and management of staff on a day-to-day basis.

To be involved in the monitoring, appraisal and disciplining of staff as necessary.

To ensure supervision of staff is conducted on a regular basis.

To ensure all staff have an awareness of company training plan and that training such as induction of new staff in on going and recorded.

To ensure all staff are aware of and participate in staff appraisal procedure.

To maintain and supervise good communication system between staff and senior management through correct use of handover, message book and team meetings.

To be concerned for staff welfare, appraisal and monitoring of staff absence and levels of sickness.

Managing Finances

To assist in the management and operation of budget and petty cash within guidelines.

To monitor expenditure and alert manager in cases of overspending.

To ensure the staff understand and operate financial system correctly.

To assist in the homes budgeting estimates.

To ensure adequate resources are at the home, such as stationary, petty cash and educational materials.

Managing Environment

To assist the Head of Care to;

Create a homely setting to which the child or young person can identify.

Maintain a safe environment that complies with Health and Safety and other legal requirements.

Maintain the fabric of the building and grounds encouraging staff and the residents to take full advantage and make best use of the resource.

Create and develop links between the home, community and child or young person, allowing the child or young person to become an integrated member of the community.

Ensure compliance of company policies, National Minimum Standards and other departments associated with childcare.

Personal Responsibility

To assist Motivations Activity Projects Ltd to provide the highest standard of childcare with a professional attitude.

To maintain an up to date professional knowledge, updating this through training and reading.
