Outreach Support Worker
Creative Support is a thriving and progressive national third sector social care organisation, with a passion for delivering high quality and meaningful services to the people we support.
Two dedicated support workers are required to support a personable young man in his own home in Stratford-upon-Avon. The client has a range of autistic, sensory, communication and learning disabilities and health conditions that require daily monitoring.
Support is currently under review but presently is 2-3 hours on some weekday mornings. The basic requirement is for two support workers to share about 10 hours of support addressing domestic needs around cleaning, laundry, medication checks, post, and kitchen management. It is essential that one support worker at least is able to drive and transport the client on weekly shopping trips and occasional medical and other appointments. Therefore, owning a car and clean driving licence is essential. All expenses to be met by the client.
The client receives support from an occupational therapist who is providing training and support for people working with this client. Experience and maturity are likely to be helpful, but a willingness to engage in understanding the specific needs and establishing good routines is the essential requirement of this job.
The client has until recently worked part time, and while he is not required to look for work would like to return to employment; this would generate more support hours to help him maintain the employment.
The client has many capabilities and is companionable with a wide, but specific range of interests. He would benefit from support to help him maintain a healthy lifestyle and access public and social events. He does not drive but uses a bike for short journeys. The ability to accompany the client on walking and cycling outings, would be helpful.
Due to his disabilities, this client has difficulty with aspects of communication and understanding, and requires help to motivate him on many tasks. The client’s parents currently manage aspects of the support, and are keen to co-ordinate with support workers to help them understand their son’s needs and, in due course, allow him to be more independent from them.
