Graduate / Junior Power Electronics Design Engineer
Warwickshire, UK £25-35k + pension

This role is open to graduate / junior electronics design engineers that have a natural interest in technology and are keen to develop their skills within power electronic and control.

The position has been created within a small but growing company that designs and develops high speed electric motors for low carbon, hybrid and electric vehicle applications mostly for the automotive domain.

You will work within an established team of electronics engineers and will be involved with full product design and development. Typically this will involve:
• Design and development of power electronic circuits (including drive and control circuits) – schematic capture and PCB layout
• Assistance and involvement with build, assembly, prototyping, test and validation of electronics in the lab
• Involvement with fault investigation, FMEA and new product introduction

The company is small hence the role will be varied and challenging and will require a flexible attitude. As a graduate / electronics design engineer you will eventually own power electronics projects taking new designs through to test, validation, type approval and into manufacture.

Skills / Knowledge:
• A good graduate degree or higher in a relevant subject (e.g. electronics engineering, computer science, physics, etc)
• Analogue / digital electronics design (PCB layout and schematic capture using Orcad / Altium or similar)
• Evidence of involvement with the design and development of power electronics, DC-DC converters, Inverter design or similar would be preferred
• Good communication skills, well organised, a flexible attitude and ability to manage your own projects
• Experience of Raspberry Pi or Arduino projects (home or work related) would be of interest (candidates showing hobby electronics or relevant internships will be preferred.)

Others: (beneficial skills)
• Low level software development bare metal programming for embedded systems using C - experience of microcontrollers (e.g. PIC, ARM, TI DSP chips etc)
• Experience of high speed motor control, industrial drives, robotics, mechatronics or similar may prove useful
• Matlab / Similunk for control systems modelling may prove useful

Graduates and junior engineers with an interest in the automotive, electric vehicle, hybrid / low emissions or renewables markets would find this company very interesting. Also those that have relevant internships, summer placements or hobbies would be preferred.

The role may also suit engineers with a few years of experience or perhaps time spent as a research associates / Post Doc with relevant industrial / commercially lead power electronics projects
