Coventry University Group are expanding its Information Protection team and are looking for two experienced Paralegals to join their team on six month contracts.

This is an excellent opportunity to move in-house and develop within a very unique and global Group. Providing high quality, efficient and effective administrative support for Data Protection and Freedom of Information matters, you will share the responsibility for efficient and seamless delivery of responses to all external requests for information.

Working closely with colleagues in the Information Protection Team you will excel at providing an excellent service across the University to provide advice, training and to collate and draft responses to external requests.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Be responsible for meeting the University and its subsidiaries’ compliance obligations in accordance with requests received under the Data Protection Act, the General Data Protection Regulation, the Freedom of Information Act and all related legislation in a timely manner.

• Assist with providing staff training and guidance in relation to the Data Protection Act, the General Data Protection Regulation and the Freedom of Information Act and any related legislation.

• Provide full support for the acceptance/acknowledging of all incoming requests to the Information Protection Unit.

• Help with reviewing/drafting data protection clauses in commercial contracts.

• Help with reviewing/drafting but not limited to data sharing agreements, consent forms and privacy notices.

• Maintain and monitor systems to progress and chase information requests to ensure resolution in a timely and legally compliant manner.

• Undertake key aspects of the Information Protection Team administration, including but not limited to: Data Protection and Freedom of Information logs.

• Plan, manage and prioritise own workload to ensure that deadlines are met, anticipating problems with achievement of objectives and either seeking help or resolving issues in a timely manner.

• Play a full part in the Information Protection Team, maintaining knowledge of the work done by others and assisting and/or providing cover for them where necessary.

• Monitoring, answering and progressing Data Protection enquiries, working with other professionals in a timely manner to meet internal and statutory deadlines.

• Investigate data breaches and liaise with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) upon instruction.

• Help with the University’s GDPR compliance plan.

• Provide support on requests for information as and when required including but not limited to FOIA, SARs and Police requests.

• AND such other duties as are within the scope of the spirit of the job purpose, the title of the post and its grading.

Person Specification

• Degree level or relevant experience

• Law Degree or relevant experience

• Knowledge of data protection laws and GDPR

• Previous experience in a legal environment

• Previous experience in a higher education
