Are you kind and caring? Could you support people with learning disabilities, helping them live life on their own terms?

We have a vacancy for a Female Support Worker in our service in Church Stretton, 10 miles south of Shrewsbury. This is a Part-time position (20 hours per week) that we currently have available.

We are only accepting Female Applicants at this time due to an occupational requirement.

About the role

The service has been set up to allow a brother and sister to move into their first home after flying the nest, so they can live as independently as possible. They are in their late 40s / early 50s and attend day service and farm placements during the day in the week; Both are known and welcomed in the community and need support to continue this connection.

They are looking for people who are caring, empathetic and are easy to talk to. They need support with finances, medication, food prep and shopping, accessing the community and maintaining their good relationship with their family as they are very close. The lady needs a lot of emotional support as well.

Other hobbies and activities they enjoy are crafts, TV, playing games on their tablets, learning to cook and clean, spending time with family who live near by, going for meals, dancing at discos and generally getting out and about in the surrounding hills. They are mostly independent but some help with personal care, prompting and bathing will be required.

You'll take your turn working shifts on a rota, including days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins (2 per week). An idea of the shift patterns is as follows: Mon - Fri 15.00-23.00 sleep in, then 06.30-09.15 Sat and Sun 09,00 - 23.00 sleep in (can be split); though this can change depending on the needs of the service.

The work can be demanding and doesn't suit everyone, but if it's right for you, you'll find it incredibly rewarding and valuable. We will provide you with full training and day-to-day help and advice from your Head of Service.
