A fast growing bespoke electro-mechanical device developer which supplies to a myriad of customers in the manufacturing and engineering industry sectors, is seeking an experienced Product Manager to support their businesses future product strategy.

This is a key role for the organisation and as a Product Manager you will be accountable for the current and future performance of a line of products within the overall range. The position will be a Product Champion and will know the competitors’ products too. Learn and understand why the organisations customers buy its products and know why competitor’s customers don’t.

Manage the current range to maximise its potential and monitor every aspect of the organisations own products performance. Set the future product strategy for the business; that means owning the product roadmap, and playing a key role in research projects.

Understand customer’s real and perceived needs now and in the future, and turn that understanding into a product strategy. Work with a team of engineers to turn that understanding into concepts and specifications for innovative products that address those needs, and generate value for customers, channel partners. Launch products, ensuring the whole business is on the starting blocks at the right time, and equipped to make the most of the opportunity the products present.

Work within both the Marketing and R&D department as the key (pivotal) role.

Work with the team to deliver to an agenda. Not all products will be developed in-house, you’ll need to see other opportunities too; working with other manufacturing partners or technology providers for example, e.g. software providers.

Work with the rest of the business, and together be responsible for the performance relating to the products. This is a strategic position; the rest of the business is here to support the strategic objectives as envisioned by Marketing Director and Sales Council with significant input from this role.

You will need to be able to work at a technical level, have a higher than average level of commercial acumen, and be open-minded to ideas from all sources. Above all you need to be a communicator, you have to create a compelling vision for your products, and then transmit it throughout the business, at all levels.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Accountable for a specified line of products within the overall portfolio, managing the full Product Life CycleMonitoring and reporting on key aspects of the current product line performance, setting the short and medium term business agenda for the product range (understanding and prioritising issue resolution, evaluating potential design changes etc) in line with long term strategic goalsSet and maintain price lists for the assigned products, positioning appropriately against competitors, understanding the values of the brand and the value within the product offering. Input into scheduled price list updates, and proactively adjust pricing to manage the margin of the product line, and respond to market place activity as neededWorking with the sales and marketing teams to understand the strategy by market and territory; to understand our channels to market, and the key challenges by market/geography and channel. Use this information in setting the product roadmap and agendaConduct targeted product and application research in the market place to identify needs, and act as input information to roadmap generation, and individual product definitions and proposalsParticipate in the research agenda, ensuring that the research projects supported by the department are consistent with the long term aims of the product lineDeveloping the product roadmap, and setting the agenda and priorities for the R&D team. Work closely with the relevant project manager to deliver NPD in line with the framework guidanceGenerate and execute launch plans for new products to market, and coordinate activities with sales, marketing and other customer facing teams as neededMaintain and publish “Go To Market” plans to support NPD and launch activity and ensure clear, consistent communication and understanding across the businessWork within the NPD framework with technical authors and translators, to ensure the relevant product literature is delivered.Monitoring ongoing competitor and market activity and technology trends, understanding the impacts on the business, and adjusting short and long term product plans accordinglyVisiting key customers (and potential customers) in the course of achieving the objectives of the role. Working closely with our customers (End User & OEM), and our RSM’s and channel, to ensure they get the correct level of support, and we absorb the correct level of detail from them. Attending industry trade association meetings where relevant and reviewing regulation changes for impact &/or opportunitySupport key events such as sales meetings, exhibitions, launch meetings, key industry forum events etc as required in order to complete the core objectives of product management as definedCreate briefing &/or change documents to support sales literature creation and revision, manual iterations, advertising (i.e. new product launches), press releases, and editorialsProvide (in conjunction with the marketing communications function) the input information to ensure our sales team have the required collateral materialRoutine and regular interactions with sales teams and internal departments to share information relevant to the roleSupport sales and operations process, to ensure seasonality, product obsolescence and market shifts are consideredAttendance at Quality Meeting to ensure the integrity and objectives of the product line are maintained, and act as the customer representativeKey Relationships:

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications and experience in order to be considered for the role:

Degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent education)Experience working as an engineer bringing design from concept into production (preferably 5+ years)Sales experience – liaison and management of key customers essential and must be able to demonstrate the ability to foster new customer and distributor relationshipsExperience in developing new sales territories with a proven track record of success in growthExperience in the safety market with knowledge of the applicable safety standards and how these impact on both product design and customer requirementsFluent in Mandarin and EnglishWilling to travel around the world (50-75% of role)
