Night Security Officer, Murray Lodge, Coventry

Langley House Trust has an opportunity for a Night Security Officer to join our team based in Coventry on a full time, permanent basis working 32.5 hours per week. We are offering the successful candidate a competitive salary of £13,275 per annum.

Langley House Trust is a national Christian charity specialising in providing at-risk marginalised groups (including those leaving prison) with accommodation, support and rehabilitation in a supportive Christian environment.

As the Night Security Officer you will be responsible for safeguarding the hostel buildings between hours specified by the Project Manager and in accordance with the Project rota.

Responsibilities of our Night Security Officer include:

- Work in partnership with the Project Worker in line with the Trusts Lone Worker Policy.

- Ensure that residents, visitors, staff receive a quality service at all times;

- Provide a safe and secure environment for all occupants of the premises and grounds

- Monitor and report any building defects, completing weekly health & safety checks;

- Organize emergency repairs in accordance with Trust Policy outside normal hours

- Be responsible for Emergency Procedures, and the actions to be taken

- Ensure all First Aid and Fire Fighting equipment is in the correct location and functional, reporting any faults to the Project Manager

- Actively ensure the physical security of the hostel, including any out buildings

- Have a comprehensive knowledge of the security systems

- Control access to the building by staff, visitors and residents. This will include monitoring of the signing in book system and the delivery of contractors passes

- Invigilate the project Entrance Hall from 22.00 hours to 8.00.

- Respond to security alarm activities

- Ensure locked areas such as storage areas, laundry and boiler rooms are checked at regular intervals to ensure they are secure

- Assist in the issue and receipt of residents’ keys, where appropriate and ensure all accesses are adequately locked

- Maintaining regular telephone and radio contact between the project to assist in detecting any threat to personal safety of the staff based at either building

- Liaise with Police if necessary

- Report faulty or misplaced firefighting equipment to the Hostel manager

- Ensure they are familiar with the operation of the Automatic Fire Detection (AFD) System, where appropriate

- Respond to the activation of an AFD alarm by checking the area concerned and reporting their findings back to the on-call manager if appropriate

- Ensure that the hostel’s policy on smoking, drugs & alcohols are complied with

To become our Night Security Officer you must have the following:

- Experience of shift working, including unsocial hours.

- Experience of working with offenders or other disadvantaged groups in the criminal justice, housing, social services, not-for-profit sectors

- Proven ability to work as part of a team

- Able to deal discretely with delicate matters

- Literate to write letters and reports

- Ability to work in a challenging and demanding environment

- Good communication skills

- Relates well to people of any background

- Willing to undertake a DBS check which must be satisfactory to the Trust
