Summary

We are seeking a Lead Mid Market Underwriter to join our team in the Birmingham Commercial Branch.

This is an exciting new opportunity for a strong trading underwriter who will play a key role in driving AXA’s strategic Mid Market ambitions forward locally.


The role of the Lead Mid Market Underwriter is to drive the growth of the branch’s Property and Casualty Mid Market account, by providing effective underwriting and superior service to brokers in accordance with the local strategy.


You will generate and underwrite commercial risks from a designated panel of intermediaries, within your Underwriting Authority. You will maintain a high visibility in brokers’ offices and proactively lead the development of strong and dynamic trading relationships, taking full responsibility for the generation and conversion of profitable commercial business opportunities and Mid Market pipeline.



This role holds a unique position within our business and is suited to someone who prefers the trading and underwriting side of commercial insurance, with the ability to fully utilise operational support for underwriting administration and document issue. Individuals must be motivated by achieving personal financial targets, and will be preferentially remunerated in accordance with achieving a higher financial target.



You must be an experienced Commercial P&C Underwriter with the ability to lead face-to-face underwriting negotiations with brokers and clients; you should be highly self-motivated, and comfortable managing your own work-load and sourcing quality opportunities which help you to achieve your targets.




What will I be doing?

  • Underwriting new business profitably, accurately, consistently and in line with established underwriting practices, using the full range of appetite and tools available.

  • Maintaining high visibility in brokers’ offices to ensure personal financial KPIs are achieved.

  • Proactively leading the development of strong trading relationships with panel of brokers, taking full ownership for the generation of profitable commercial business from nominated panel.

  • Proactively developing a robust pipeline of appropriate new business opportunities and ensure that pipeline is managed and realised, including that which forms part of a FFS arrangement.

  • Ensuring that all necessary underwriting, quotation and debiting information is provided to the support underwriter in good time and good order, in a manner which ensures underwriting quality is maintained throughout the new business cycle.

  • Leading meetings, presentations and tender responses with brokers and end customers to portray AXA capabilities and secure new business opportunities.

  • Maintaining a strong understanding of the performance of personal panel and communicate to management to enable contributions to broker reviews.

  • Effectively promoting and deploy AXA’s strategy, product range, propositions and key differentiators in order to leverage new business opportunities.

  • Regularly liaising with the Strategic Relationship Managers to ensure local and strategic management of panel brokers is aligned.
