Our client is looking to recruit an experienced Youth Manager to be based from their newly built youth and community centre in Nechells, Birmingham (once completed). The successful applicant will be responsible for the management of services, staff and volunteers across all youth projects.

As a registered charity, their mission is to improve the lives of children and young people living in Nechells, Birmingham introducing them to new experiences and widening their horizons. Services are delivered on and off site as well as on an ongoing basis and adhoc.

The successful applicant will have a proven track record of working within youth and children’s services. The ability to manage people, finances and also third parties - all whilst ensuring all programmes and services are delivered on time and on plan - is essential.

Duties and responsibilities include

Operational responsibility for programmes and services within the youth & children division, ensuring required levels of staff and resources are met whilst remaining within agreed budget

  • Manage and monitor programmes and services to make sure they are being effective and delivered in accordance with all our policies and procedures.

  • To take senior responsibility for the youth team (paid and voluntary) encouraging a positive and supportive attitude

  • Manage and monitor agreements/contracts with key partners, including strategic planning, progress and evaluation against agreed objectives of programme.

  • Ensuring Health & Safety legislation and guidelines are adhered to at all times

  • Day to day management, motivation and development of staff in line with agreed individual objectives agreed as part of staff review process

  • Identify any training need either individually or team wide

  • Ensure that all duties are performed in line with corporate and legally obliging financial, safeguarding and other policy regulations.

  • To ensure the Director(s) are aware of progress, challenges and any potential needs for improvement.

You need

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing youth departments and projects
  • At least 5 years’ experience of active face to face youth work in a similar setting/context
  • Qualification in Youth & Community work
  • Broad knowledge of youth and community issues, particularly with regard to:
  • Young people from disadvantage communities

  • Working with young people aged 0 – 25

  • Building based youth work

  • Outreach and issue based youth work

  • Flexibility, early mornings, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and overnight stays may all be required

  • Full and clean driving licence, preferably with the ability to drive a minibus
