SALARY: £45,000 - £60,000 base

THE OPPORTUNITY - Principal Mechanical Engineer - Automated Metrology
Working as part of our Special Applications team, this role is an exciting hands-on opportunity to drive mechanical design and lead a multi-disciplined team through concept, build and test of specials/custom metrology systems. Once signed off, you will then oversee the transference of the projects through production to delivery and installation.
The position will expose the successful candidate to several full product life cycles per year both from an operational, commercial and technological perspective, all with a strong market pull.
Candidates will be expected to work closely with clients on key projects and some international travel will be required.
THE ROLE WILL APPEAL TO CANDIDATES WHO CAN:
> Assume the technical & project lead for a multi-disciplined team of engineers across electronics, mechanical, software & service
> Display a track record of designing small mechanisms and drives typically with DC motors in precision mechanics, mechatronics or systems engineering
> Manage projects from concept through production and maintenance, including prototype, construction, testing, supporting calculations and documentation
> Display strong Project Management skills specific to developing special systems against customer orders
> Design using a range of CAD/CAM technologies: Siemens NX8.5 (or later) & Teamcenter, SolidWorks & EPDM
> Co-ordinate the design and development of affiliated products: electrical, optics and application design
> Conduct discussions with suppliers regarding specifying parts negotiating delivery and pricing.
> Undertake occasional travel, including overseas, to better understand client requirements
PERSON REQUIREMENTS - Principal Mechanical Engineer
> Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar technical discipline
> Experience of precision/machine tool/medical engineering from product concept through production and maintenance
> Potential for higher position in the future
> Experience with Siemens NX8.5 (or later) & Teamcentre, SolidWorks & EPDM are desirable
> Knowledge of fixtures or Kinematic principles
> Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
> Passionate about all aspects of new technologies
> Enthusiastic and self-motivated, with the drive & desire to create excellent products
> Great communication & interpersonal skills as this role works closely across cross functional internal teams and with customers
> Strong administration skills specifically those pertaining to the maintenance of design documentation
> Ability to speak Mandarin would be an advantage but not necessary
> Where the candidate is at a senior grade with limited experience coaching and training will be given as part of a formal development plan
