Development Engineer required to work on the development of world-class braking products for the Commercial Vehicle sector.

Our Client designs, develops and manufactures a range of braking products which are supplied to major commercial vehicle OEMs around the world. They have a worldwide footprint and have a wide range of braking and associated products in their portfolio.

Development Engineer Role:

To perform test and report on new air systems products for commercial vehicles prior to their introduction to the market place and updates to current product.

Contribute to a bridge building culture and act with 5C behaviour.

Engage in results driven continuous improvements and purposeful application.

Undertake all aspects of development and testing work to ensure production introduction is successfully achieved in accordance with the relevant product design specifications.

Plan and implement test programs leading towards product development and Engineering Sign Off.

Co-ordinate and liaise with Engineering the overseeing of all development, quality and customer return activities in terms of component/system testing and/or prototype manufacture.

Ability to conduct Benchmark testing of products for current / future innovations.

Analyse to a high degree of understanding test results in order to determine engineering solutions and if necessary utilising mathematic modelling.

Able to compile detailed engineering reports through compilation of test data utilising sound presentation skills to formulate good engineering solutions.

Control and maintenance of development records for traceability as document custodian.

Generate relevant test specifications for new products.

Co-ordinate and manage the design and construction of component/system test rigs/equipment to fulfil legislative/customer requirements.

When required, act as technical liaison with other departments (e.g. Service/Production/Quality/Sales departments) and outside suppliers.

Project Manage internal project or test aspects of an external resource.

Assist the co-ordination of calibration on all rigs to ensure they conform to Quality procedures and ISO legislation.

Procurement of materials and components for test equipment, rigs, etc.

Assist departmental improvement incentives in the evolution of existing test procedures, legislative and customer acceptance standards.

Control effective supplier sign off criterion for new components ensuring it meets DVP&R requirements.

Assist engineering disciplines in presenting test data and / or design solutions both internally/externally.

Perform job functions in accordance with set policies and procedures to ensure preservation of Company Quality Policy.

Co-ordinate work activities which come in line with health and safety procedures with reference to material specifications, working practices and precautions ensuring that all legal / safety requirements are meet.

Actively participate and support the development of your team and cross-functional work, adapting too organizational and process changes. Monitor and improve the performance of your work and processes you contribute to, addressing deviations or communicate need for support. You are expected and have authority to temporarily stop work or processes if safety, environment or quality is at risk.

Development Engineer Requirements:

Degree in Engineering discipline, plus 2-3 years' experience in engineering (preferably automotive, rail or aeronautical).

Understanding and ability to interpret global specifications.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings and component inspection methods.

Specific experience of preventative maintenance and calibration methods.

Knowledge of automotive engineering (commercial vehicles) and Validation / Verification Methodologies.

Measurement techniques with the ability to extrapolating data for reports.

Knowledge and use of QS9001/APQP procedures.

Operation, maintenance and construction of current, bespoke test platforms including test rigs and pneumatic architecture.

Skills:

Computer literate - Microsoft Office (Advanced).

Experience in use of general purpose mechanical laboratory test equipment.

Ability to program and use computer controlled data acquisition equipment.

Use of Microsoft software packages for reporting data and generating specifications.

Use of proprietary software packages for reporting data and generating specification.

HIL/Mathworks and Labview.

Knowledge of pneumatic systems as they apply to truck and heavy trailers would be an advantage.

Working knowledge of 8D problem solving process.

Working knowledge of FMEA and DVP&R process.

Ability to be creative and innovative in the development process.

Ability to solve problems and be self-motivated.

Co-ordinating, organising and able to communicate through verbal, written and presentations at all levels.

Ability to use the standard range of workshop machinery for manufacturing or modifying prototypes would be an advantage.

Ability to Project manage complete projects to gateway processes.

Possess Problem Solving / Analytical Skills.

Self-management and ability to prioritise work.

Accept responsibility for ownership of tasks.

Initiative to take action, within one's authority.
