LM Overview

Two of Europe's most prominent and innovative engineering and construction companies - Laing O'Rourke and Murphy - have come together to form LM, a powerful joint venture, supporting the growing number of major transport infrastructure projects across the UK.

Both organisations are market leaders in high-speed rail delivery, tunnelling, bridge construction, civil engineering, offsite manufacturing and digital engineering.

LM, along with Fusion JV and CS JV, have been awarded the enabling works for High Speed Two. Delivering the essential early works will include archaeology, site clearance and setting up construction compounds - ahead of the start of the main civil engineering work.

The £900 million enabling works contracts cover the whole of Phase One, from London to Birmingham and the connection to the West Coast Main line at Handsacre in Staffordshire

Main purpose of role:

To support the design team and work package teams in the timely and accurate delivery of design, enabling broader work package delivery deadlines to be met in line with client expectations. Work closely with all other relevant functions to embed design across the programme.

Key responsibilities and duties:

Role specific

- Establish and promote best practice in design in relation to health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with the Health, Safety and Wellbeing department.
- Build effective and productive relationships with DJV as LM's chosen design partner and support their delivery of design
- Produce design briefs for temporary and permanent work
- Review submissions as directed for quality and sufficiency
- Update design folders and registers ongoing
- Produce minutes and schedules for Design Review Meetings
- Assist team members CEM / QS / PM as required with engineering input
- Sketching / Drawing ability including CAD.
- Attend team meetings as required
- Attend site as required to liaise with Site Managers / CRE / CNR and report to CEM
- Assist CEM with engineering compliance issues on sites
- Initial awareness of temporary works; further experience to be gained
- Ensure correct drawings are maintained and issued to sites in accordance with 3 above
- Co-ordination / management abilities to deal with several small projects or large multi-disciplined projects
- Excellent interpersonal skills and assertive when required to ensure timely design delivery
- Design capability as pre-requisite for submission review and checking
- Ability to undertake small scale in-house temporary design
